Has anyone eaten a burger from Elevation Burger? I just recieved a flyer in the mail and one has just opened near me, but I have not tried it yet. It says they are 100% organic, 100% grass-fed. Plus they use "real cheddar", and cook their fries in olive oil. I would venture to guess the olive oil might be pretty refined(?) I consider this a great sign that the demand for pasture-based food and farming is catching on to the mainstream.

Isn't olive oil in high heat supposed to be really bad for you? – memostotle Sep 13 2011 at 1:57

mem - most places cook their fries in canola or soybean or some other high O6 oil. Olive oil is not the best choice because of the smoke point, but I think I'd at least be more comfortable with olive oil than say... what In'nOut uses. At least Olive Oil has the antioxidant compounds (if they are using EV) and is only 15% O6. – Jack Kronk Sep 13 2011 at 16:35

Memo, Jack, I wonder about the olive oil too. I'm sure they're not frying fries in EV olive oil, it'd be smoking up a storm! It must be 'light' olive oil. When I go there, I'm going to ask, and then I'll put an update on here. – Stephy Sep 14 2011 at 17:49
I think it's 10% unsaturated + vitamin E, so it's better than most stuff. – Korion Apr 16 2012 at 18:37
I realize this is an old thread, but if you're still concerned about frying in olive oil, please see here: paleohacks.com/questions/113142/… – Mike T Dec 2 at 17:57

Yes! by far the best burger I ever ate.. Fries are darn good too! I am guessing we are in the same area since an Elevation Burger just opened up near me as well and there aren't to many around yet. Its one of the few restaurants I feel comfortable eating at. Burgers are pricey but well worth it! I highly recommend it!

I'm in Moorestown, NJ. They just opened one up in the mall. They also have a Chipotle, so now I have two "cheat" places to eat out. I still wonder about the olive oil though. If they're frying fries in it, it must already be highly refined, but I would still choose that over PUFAs I guess. – Stephy Sep 14 2011 at 17:45
Agreed, they are very good. The olive oil fries are pretty decent. My only disappointment is I wish they cooked them in tallow, but I guess they have to placate the vegetarians. – Rob Apr 16 2012 at 17:20

Yes! This place is awesome. I get the lettuce wrap instead of the bun and it holds up quite well. When done properly, the fries turn out very good - crispy and the olive oil adds a nice flavor (in my opinion). I think low smoke point of olive oil (when refined) is a myth, and here is a more detailed discussion of the fries fried in olive oil:

Their website now has a direct link to their nutrition facts on the front page:

I have not eaten there, but have had several co-workers who have and they say it's good. :)

My neighbors--a naturopathic doc and her husband--are big fans. Haven't been there yet myself.

Elevation Burger is really good. Don't have any near my home, but have eaten at one in South Florida a couple times when traveling. I also like Farm Burger in Atlanta. I actually like Farm Burger better, but that may have to do with the adorable gay black man who always takes care of me when I sit at the bar.

We just got a grass fed burger place where I live, in Jacksonville, FL. But they use frozen patties from a farm in the Northeast. Still not sure how I feel about that - although they taste good and the location (pretty much on the beach) makes it a worthwhile trip in itself.

Finally, there is a place in St. Augustine called Gas: A Full Service Restaurant that serves local grass fed burgers. They have a Burger Benedict - two grass fed beef patties topped with a poached egg, bacon and hollandaise (served with no bun). Before I cut eggs and dairy I'd drive down there just for that. Delicious.

Anyway, please support your local Elevation Burger. Hopefully we will get one here in Jax!

Hi Andrea, I live in Atlantic Beach and am wondering what burger joint you're referring to. I know [M Shack][1] has a Crossfit burger (not on the menu) that's supposedly made with 100% grass-fed beef. They saute' some veggies that go on the burger but I don't know what kind of oil they use. We are neighbors! I'm off Southside Blvd. I am referring to M Shack. Their burgers are all made with 100% grass fed beef, but they are frozen patties shipped in from somewhere in the northeast. I've seen the sign for the CrossFit burger. The only issue there is that they recommend the sweet potato tots as a side and I found out the hard way that the sweet potato tots have a flour coating to make them crispy. I confirmed this with the manager on duty after I started having gluten-exposure tummy pain after eating them. – Andrea May 20 2012 at 15:18

There's one about 1.5 hours from where I live (same with most other good stuff- Trader Joe's, Whole Foods, etc.); I make sure to eat there whenever I'm passing through that area (National Harbor near Alexandria,VA). I love it!

I was in San Diego a couple weeks ago and ate at a place called Burger Lounge- grassfed burgers, organic cheese (even organic ketchup- they made a point to ask if I'd like "more organic ketchup" haha); it was AWESOME. I need to move.

Moving in order to be close to good burgers. An admirable lifestyle change if there ever was one. – treeees May 17 2012 at 12:51
And all that Vitamin D! ;) – Jules K May 17 2012 at 15:05

Did some searching and found that there's one here in Dallas! I think I will give it a try. Always looking for a good burger place and +1 if they don't cook their fries in nasty oil!

I have eaten there and it is good enough. What concerns me is the lack of ingredient information for what they serve. If anyone here reads paleo toad they will remember that everyone was excited about Moe's Grill (serve 100% grass fed beef) until they found out that they inject the meat with REALLY bad additives. I would add them to my go to eating out place if they would post their ingredients.

The beef is ground on-site in each restaurant. There is nothing added. They have recently done nutritional analysis on their food and nutrition facts should be available in all restaurants, though not yet officially anywhere online that I can find. – Mike T Apr 16 2012 at 17:20
ahh, here are the nutritional facts: processpeak.com/msi/elevationburger/… – Mike T Apr 16 2012 at 17:25
Mike, how do you know this? No offense of course I just like hearing things from the horse's mouth. Any idea what is in their sauce? – Denis Apr 16 2012 at 17:36

I am a franchisee in the process of finding a location for my first restaurant. I haven't yet gone through full training, so don't yet have all the details. I'm not sure what is in the Elevation Sauce, but I'm confident it's not paleo. I've never gotten it myself. My go to order is: lettuce wrap burger with double meat and double cheese, tomato, pickle, onion and yellow mustard. – Mike T Apr 16 2012 at 18:00
They go to great lengths to develop a good meat supply. They work closely with the ranchers to help with organic certification, ensure free range conditions, etc. I've been in back of the house in more than a few locations and seen how the meat comes in and how it's ground. – Mike T Apr 16 2012 at 18:04

There was one on 14th St and 6th Ave in Manhattan. I ate there once and wasn't impressed. Now they're closed and a different burger place is about to open in the same space.

We have two grass-fed burger places here in Seattle (actually four, because Blue Moon Burgers has three locations: South Lake Union, Capitok Hill, and Fremont.) The other is 8 oz Burger Bar on Capitol Hill. They also have bacon brussel sprouts. Yum!
