Hey all! I'm wondering if truffle oil is paleo? I don't have a particular brand in mind but would appreciate any input. I browsed around a bit but couldn't find an answer. I haven't indulged since going paleo, but thought if it was ok to eat then I might go a buy a bottle of my own.

Thanks!

It can be. Just know the oil type and make sure it's real truffle and not flavoring. – Shari Bambino Sep 14 2011 at 15:36

Real, high quality truffle oil made with olive oil is definetely paleo. Look for a chunk of actual truffle at the bottom. Beware of less expensive "truffle" oils that contain artifical truffle flavor in sunflower oil. They definetely exist.

Truffle oil is da bomb. I love it on sunny side up eggs or steak. :)

Well, even if truffle oil isn't paleo, it's probably worth it as, as Peter says, it's da bomb ;). Since it's mostly oil and very little truffle, I'd recommend trying to find one that doesn't use a veggie oil base if you can.

You can also try Truffle Sea Salt. It is really expensive (although, so is truffle oil itself!), but you only need a little, and still get that delicious flavor.

Ah yes, you know at one point before going paleo I was on the hunt for truffle salt. That stuff is HARD to find in stores! I found it several places online but just never got around to ordering it. Thanks for the suggestion. :) – Brooke Sep 14 2011 at 0:58
I love truffle salt! I buy it from the Spice House usually but see it in specialty stores sometimes. I use it on everything it seems. My favorite is to put it on unsalted macadamia nuts. Party in my mouth! Great on eggs, veggies....well it's great on everything really. – Shari Bambino Sep 14 2011 at 15:35

daRosario USDA 100% Organic Truffles Evoo is Paleo all the way. it is the only one that is 100% real truffles.

Worth it as the rest out there can't prove they are real. look on the web at "fake truffle oil" and you will be shocked. Consumers have been fooled for almost 30 years.

Thanks! I'll look for it. :) – Brooke Sep 16 2011 at 3:42
