I have become quite drastically more sun resistant, and can even tan now, which I never could before. Of the things listed in this article, I use only high saturated fat, vitamin D supplementation, and I've also been eating some dulse recently, which has astaxanthin. How about you?
I've found the same thing happening with me - even to the point that areas of vitiligo are shrinking. I have 5000 IU D3 every day, high sat fat diet too. Didn't know about dulse, will have to check that out.
interestingly, since taking vitamin D i have become less sun resistant. I used to burn slightly and tan, and now I get freckles everywhere in the sun. Trying to figure out why. Im low carb 100% paleo
Not that the summer in Seattle this year has given a lot of anecdotal evidence, but I have noticed this too during our flashes of summer. Also I spent a week with my shirt off on the Outer Banks which normally would have fried me to a crisp and had me peeling for a week, and all I got was a nice all over tan. :)
Of that list, I eat tomatoes pretty much every day, supplement D3, and have a high sat fat diet. I guess I also have the occasional wine, berries, and shrimp, but probably not enough to make a dent as far as this is concerned.
The one thing I was surprised he did not mention is coconut oil. I use it as a facial moisturizer and have the deepest tan I have ever had on my face. It lets just enough through, but keeps me from burning, even when all my friends are bright red.
I haven't had much experience with this yet -- I live in western Oregon, where the software for summer is not installing properly this year -- but I did lay out in the noonday sun (UV index 7) a couple of weeks ago and didn't burn. I'd been taking 10,000 IU/day of D3 since the middle of April (recently dropped to 8,000, but that's post-layout).
Ordinarily I burn on my first long exposure, so add me to the anecdotal data regarding D3 supplementation and sun resistance.
Used to burn pretty quickly after sun exposure, but haven't burnt once this year yet, even though my average sun exposure has increased. I started the year with vitamin D3 supplementation of approximately 7000 IU/day, and am now down to about 5000 IU/day. I'll still put on sunscreen if I expect to be outdoors for most of the day, but for a couple hours here or there, I won't even bother.
I've definetely noticed this. I used to get pink mere minutes... like 10-15 in the sun. Even in New England and since I started supplementing with 5000iu D3, got it to 65 and went high fat primal I haven't gotten pink once since this summer started and I've been outdoors a lot more than I was last year. The most interesting thing is my son whom I've also supplemented with D3 and now cod liver oil and he eats primal and is mostly breastfede. He's almost 8 months old and pretty fair skinned like me and he doesn't get burned either. I still put a hat on him to protect his face but so far I've never put anything but coconut oil on his limbs and he's been just fine.
