The other day, my massage therapist was telling me about her experience with colonics and how amazing she felt after she had one. She said her weight loss was easier; when she got pregnant she only gained 28lbs as opposed to much more; and after pregnancy she went right back down to her pre-baby "perfect weight" with ease.
Now, I'm not planning on getting pregnant anytime soon, but I'm wondering what everyone's experiences are with colonics?
Colonics can be harmful. Please don't do this to your body. They can cause anything from bowel perforations to gut flora imbalances. Google it and do some research first. Your body has evolved to cleanse internally on its own. You don't need to 'detoxify' yourself....that's why you have a liver and kidneys.
The few people who I know who have done colonics do it to get the 'gunk' out that supposedly accumulates in there and gives you a flatter stomach and quick short term weight loss; alot of which is water.
I believe it would also rob you of the good flora in your intestines so it might do more harm than good if you already have a compromised system.
My friend just had a baby and only gained 25lbs, a month later has lost most of that weight due to breastfeeding, and has NEVER had a colonic.
I think they are bunk that appeal to the quick-fix set, and the people with bathroom issues. I have yet to see ANY substantial evidence that they work at all. The body is a self-cleaning organism, and doesn't need any help, IMO.
People with certain conditions, such as diverticular disease, ulcerative colitis, Crohn's disease, severe hemorrhoids, blood vessel disease, congestive heart failure, heart disease, severe anemia, abdominal hernia, gastrointestinal cancer, recent colon surgery, and intestinal tumors should not have a colonic. Pregnant women should not have a colonic as it may stimulate uterine contractions.
