hey, if anyone gets barardi's emails they will have already seen this but since some of us spend a good chunk of time talking about grass-fed beef, cafo beef, etc i thought posting this would be worthwhile:

This and the other article about the "health" regarding grassfed has actually changed my own shopping habits.

I used to buy solely 100% grassfed beef. That meant, due to the price, that i didnt actually consume much beef. I dont do dairy so that was easy. I did a lot of fish, chicken, turkey, etc.

In the past week though i have started buying non-100%-grassfed beef. From TJ's. If i could afford it, id still buy only grassfed but simply put I cant. And i think eating red meat regularly is something we have evolved to do. Just thought id mention it. peace

Seeing something first-hand is great, but the fact that someone has "been there" doesn't trump all other factors. I've never been to North Korea, but I know I would not want to live there.

I agree with Stephen-Aegis that the nutritional benefits of grass-fed make it a clear choice for me, as the link below indicates. (Of course, if cost is a major issue, any beef is better than no beef!)

I buy grassfed for nutritional benefit, something the grainfed cows don't have even if they aren't abused(other than being fed a poor diet)

Ben, thank you. Since Grok didn't eat cows to begin with, I suspected that it made little difference whether they were grain or grass fed, especially if we're not eating veg fats. And now, knowing the truth about beef farms, I feel more vindicated.

The point isn't humane treatment... The point I nutrition and grainfed aren't nearly as nutritious ... – Stephen-Aegis Jun 25 2010 at 0:36
yknow, i just try and keep an openmind. I mean, im all for feeding animals what they are evolved to eat - thats the cornerstone of the entire paleoprimal thing afterall, right? But obviously we are all confronted with the realities of economy, availability, etc. So, i mean, if you can rock grassfed, do it! but maybe we just shouldnt be so quick to paint with such a broad brush all the lesser choices is all. – ben61820 Jun 25 2010 at 0:55
