Has anyone ever tried this? I know a guy who is eating a TSP every morning for energy he said it works great and lasts all day. I was just wondering potential set backs with doing this or if any one else practices this??
About once a week I'll do a fat fast to promote lipolysis and protein turnover.
To keep my energy levels up on days when I plan on working out or teaching fitness classes I'll sometimes have some coconut oil (about 1-2 tbsp with about 1 tsp almond butter, a pinch of sea salt, and a little unsweetened natural cocoa powder mixed in)
A couple weeks ago I did this prior to a metabolic conditioning workout and the coach remarked that he hadn't seen anyone work as hard yet or since. I was able to hit 90+ % of my Max heart rate (using a polar heart rate monitor) several points over the course of the 30 min workout and felt great.

I recently relied on coconut oil as easily transportable energy food while in a food desert at a martial arts conference... kept it in my dorm room and felt totally well fed by using it to supplement meals constructed around canned sardines/salmon, avocado, eggs, sauerkraut and nuts. I agree that at first you need to be careful about too much on an empty stomach but now I seem to handle it ok.
Mix in some raw cacao nibs!
It's also an excellent immune booster and antimicrobial. While at the conference one of my buddies had folliculitis; I gave him a paper cup of coconut oil with a couple doz drops of tea tree oil mixed in to treat it.
I eat a scoop of my "Fake" Nutella instead of lunch on busy days and find that I don't get hungry until after 4pm. I've also recently discovered Coconut Manna and have been flavoring it with high quality cocoa, real vanilla extract, a little (1/4 tsp per 1c manna) honey, and cinnamon. Yum!
Here's my fake Nutella recipe:
2/3 full jar of Coconut Oil
1/4-1/3 c almond butter, just for the nutty flavor
2-3 TBS 100% high quality cocoa powder, make sure you spend the money to get the good stuff
1 tsp honey, just enough to sweeten slightly, but you should taste the nut and chocolate before any sweetness.
Mix well and store in fridge.

I've eaten large and/or multiple spoonfuls of it many times. Never noticed any energy increase (i wish), nor any stomach probs like i've seen others mention (thankfully). Less hungry, that's it. I cook with it all the time.
I can't stomach a spoonful of coconut oil. Any tips on making it more bearable like keeping it refrigerated or something? Are there differences in quality of coconut oil? I may have a low quality (bought it at walmart). I want to like it but I can't!
I've taken 1-2 Tbspns and felt no ill effects. Sometimes as breakfast, sometimes later in the day. It does keep me full for a long time.
But warning. Sunday I took less than 1 Tbspn (end of the jar) before my long run, thinking it would give me energy. On an empty stomach. Then endured 16 miles of gut pain and 3 trips to the bush. Not recommended.
I am finding that it does give me energy. I am using Nature's Way with the green leaf. I do not have a lot of it at a time just tiny amounts. 1 tablespoon is 130 calories according to their website. I had a little bit this morning, and I get the afternoon blahs. I like the taste - but then again I'm a person who likes butter raw, and margerine raw so it could be just me. I hope that it will help me with my large stomach.
