Besides US Wellness Meats, who seems to be out of tallow for the time being, are there any reputable sources for tallow. I simply don't have the time to render my own. Do you think I could ask a Whole Foods butcher?

I would try checking your local Farmer's Market to see if there are any local grass-fed meat farmers in your area who might be able to provide a local supply for you. I know that in our area, even though we don't have a lot of farmer's markets, we do have some farmers in the area who raise grass-fed meat, and from whom I've been able to order tallow.

Yeah, ditto above- find a local grass-based farm and you should be able to get the fat for dirt cheap (no one else wants it). You can render it yourself in a crock pot, it takes little hands-on time.

I expect the butcher would give you fat, and you'd still have to render it; the process can be simplified by putting your fat into a covered pan and the pan into the oven, set at 200-250*F and just leave it over night. pour off the 'juice' in the morning, and set into fridge to chill. I would worry more about the source, than the processing. HYH!

I get mine from Dey Dey's Best Beef Ever. They are local here in California, and I just love them!
