I'm interested in possibly pursuing a graduate degree in holistic nutrition, but it looks like many of the programs out there do not mesh well with paleo philosophy.

Has anyone studied at the Nutritional Therapy Institute? What was your experience?

Are there any other graduate programs in nutrition and wellness that are paleo-friendly?

Thanks!

I nearly applied to Bastyr nutrition program a while back, but the veggie/vegan cafeteria seriously made me question whether we would be academically compatible. So, I am really curious to know if there are any nutrition programs that are paleo friendly. – Happy Now Sep 20 2011 at 0:27
Did you read Nora Gedgaudas's book, I think she graduated from NTA... – Rockgrrl Sep 20 2011 at 0:32

@Happy Now. I also almost went to Bastyr but the $120,000 tuition threw me off. School loans are still a bubble that need to be burst – Geoff Oct 12 2011 at 6:04
Yes, I think Nora went thru the NTA (Nutritional Therapy Association) program--which embraces the WAPF philosophy-- not the NTI (Nutrition Therapy Institute)program. These are two different programs---I'm not sure what the NTI philosophy is...I'm interested too, so I'm gonna call and find out.... Can anyone who went to these programs clarify? – Nala Walla Oct 15 2011 at 2:00
On Nora Gedgaudas' website, she talks about the NTA program. This is all good info for me, because I'm beginning to seriously consider taking the program. primalbody-primalmind.com/?page_id=1260 – Anna Luna Jan 27 2012 at 20:16

I like the looks of Huntington's program, though it's hard to tell how paleo-friendly it actually is. NTA is closer in philosophy to WAPF than paleo.

I can totally work with a WAPF curriculum, but might skip out on a few class potluck items. – Happy Now Sep 20 2011 at 4:01

I went to this program and run a paleo practice. It was a great foundation.

Hi Diana-- I removed the link to your website, as per the paleohacks FAQ. – Kamal Oct 12 2011 at 2:47
Hey Diana! Did you go thru the NTA or the NTI program? Can you give a bit more detail? I am trying to decide on a possible program myself. – Nala Walla Oct 15 2011 at 4:00

Sorry Kamal I didn't realize I shouldn't put a website there. Nala Walla - I don't know what the NTI program is. I did Nutritional Therapy Association's program and am a NTP, Nutritional Therapy Practitioner.

My friend who turned me on to the Paleo diet went to Bauman College and highly recommends it.

I went to NTI. The program is well rounded, giving you foundations in multiple strategies to healthy eating. They give you the knowledge to go beyond being paleo specific, and looking more closely at the specific nutrient needs of a client. I have been impressed with the course work! I am graduating the program in a few short weeks, and feel confident in my knowledge and ability to practice. Hope that helps!
