The more podcasts I listen to the more paleo confused I get!! How do you sort through the information? I was just listening to balanced bites number 4 and they started saying less flaxseed (heard that before) and less avacado. And then less chicken and pork to alter omega 6 omega 3 balance. And now I'm seriously wondering how on earth I am going to stick to paleo without the last of those 3. So in summation, how do you sort through all this conflicting information, do you just self experiment and see what happens? Love paleo cause it has definitely helped me gain muscle mass woohoo! Thanks guys!

don't live by what they say in the podcasts...yes, they are informative, but i don't think their advice should be taken too strictly... bottom line - eat meats & veggies. eat what makes you feel good. |

The paleo info given in podcasts is no more confusing than reading the wide range of sometimes conflicting info given here at paleohacks. I think the key is not to get too stressed about the minutiae. Pick a basic plan (e.g., meat and veggies, low "safe" starch) and go with that for a while, see how that works for you. Keep listening to podcasts though. There's a wealth of info to consider - think of them as food for thought - but you don't have to take it all as gospel. |

I've learned a ton from Robb Wolf's and Chris Kesser's but even more through my own research. Start digging through the information yourself to see what works best for you. Everyone needs to do their own n=1. Just because something worked for someone doesn't mean it will or won't for you. |

In my opinion, there is nothing wrong with trying to take in as much information as possible--podcasts included. However, always keep in mind that the people who produce some of the more popular podcasts are usually the ones who are always keeping up with new studies, talking about them, and consequently reshaping their opinions. You sometimes hear people on podcasts say something about reserving the right to change their opinion down the road, which I think is a good thing. It is just the their best interpretation of the information they have, which will usually change. I just use them to stay educated knowing that it's always up for debate. |

Just eat meat and vegetables. I think you should probably look at www.marksdailyapple.com so you can become more relaxed about paleo/primal. It's not hard to follow! Just don't eat grains (or very little of them). I still eat the occasional wheat tortilla and I seem to be doing really well. |

Flaxseeds are pointless. Avocadoes are fine. Chicken is fine; if you worry about n6 then just remove the skin. Take a bit of fish oil and eat some fish 1-2 times per week and you'll do great. This is not stuff worth worrying about. |

The majority of the fat in avocado is monounsaturated (67%). With a paleo diet you've eliminated most offending omega 6-s so I wouldn't worry about the omega 6s in avocado (11%) too much. http://nutritiondata.self.com/facts/fruits-and-fruit-juices/1843/2 |

Stop listening to all those podcasts!! Okay, just kidding, i love them too - and it can be very confusing. This advice on chicken/pork/avocado is mostly worried about excess n6 or keeping n6/n3 balanced. Nobody is really sure what the best ratio is and if you get some fish now and then, you should be fine. It also depends on how "off" your health status is - some people might need to be more strict and others not so much. If you are not experiencing symptoms of inflammation, I wouldn't get too wrapped up in "Oh, I better cut back on the chicken." It's much more important to cut back on the donuts! I guess what I'm saying is that not everything said on a podcast is gonna apply to you. Your job is to figure out what does apply, decide whether or not to try it, see if it works and go from there. Robb Wolf's "How do you look, feel and perform" meme is useful in determining what you should do. |

There isn't ANY conflicting information whatsoever in that paragraph - flaxseed, avocado, chicken, and pork are all high in omega 6 fatty acids. Doesn't mean you can't eat any of it (well, there's pretty much no good reason to eat flaxseed...), but just keep consumption down. It's why most people on Paleo are obsessed with beef and seafood - both have much better 6:3 ratios than all the above. |
