I am male, 18, 5'8, and about 169 pounds. I've been on paleo just under 2 weeks now and what I seem to notice in the last few days is that, I'm not too hungry anymore. I could easily skip breakfast and have dinner later on and I still feel like I could have skipped dinner entirely. When I do get a bit hungry, it's much easier to ignore, too. Because of this, I don't often have 3 meals daily and just have breakfast and dinner.

Do you think I'm eating enough in general? I'm worried that I may lose muscle mass or somehow become ill.

Breakfast is usually scrambled egg or an omlette, with 3-5 eggs, quite a bit of butter or coconut oil and maybe mushrooms, ham, cheese, onions, etc.

I drink adequate amounts of water, it helps me stay satiated. If I feel hungry and have some water, my hunger goes.

Lunch could be the same as breakfast if I have lunch.

Dinner? Depends. Could be some steak cooked in a good bit of butter, mushrooms, brocolli and some more butter. Vegetables need variation, I must admit (it's only ever really brocolli, mushrooms, sometimes peppers, some lettuce, etc).

I just want to know am I eating enough to sustain myself?

can you give us some idea of your daily activity level? seems to me if you feel good & you're not hungry, then everything's fine. but if you're mixing in a lot of exercise, you might need to monitor your food intake more closely – Ruth Sep 23 2011 at 12:29
Oops, sorry about that. I'm lightly active most days but I'm going to be doing HIIT sprints pretty soon, already do bodyweight exercises and I train in Kung Fu once-twice a week:) – rooky Sep 23 2011 at 12:32
I work out 4-5 days a week and eat when I'm hungry and stop when I'm full. Some days I'll eat six times. Others once. Your body will let you know what's up. If you're concerned about losing weight, as in you don't want to, you could always add a few tubers into the mix. – jesuisjuba - paleorepublic.com Sep 23 2011 at 13:03

As long as you are feeling satiated you should be fine.

Although our constantly "grazing", high-carb, processed food, 4th meal culture might disagree (because not eating 24/7 is not profitable!), If you're not hungry, you probably don't need to eat!

If you're concerned, however, you could use an online food tracker like http://www.sparkpeople.com/ to log your intake for a few days to make sure you're not going too low.

You mean to tell me that Taco Bell's 4th Meal is bad for me? – Shawn Sep 23 2011 at 15:19
Taco Bell has the best marketing department in the fast-food business. – FED at LiveCaveman.com Sep 23 2011 at 18:24

If anything, 169 is at the high end for 5'8". If, in time, you find yourself losing weight, don't worry--it's excess fat--your body will seek its correct weight. You won't waste away; you're doing fine.
