Hi everyone,

I'm wondering if anyone here dealt with gastritis and how they were able to heal their stomach?

My current protocol is:

  • aloe vera, DGL, L-glutamine & arabinogalactan powder mixture (twice daily on empty stomach)
  • probiotics & kefir
  • S.boulardii
  • Pepzin GI (twice a day with meals)
  • coconut oil once in a while

I'm having a burning pain in my upper stomach that comes and goes by the week after a safe/non-irritating/inflammatory meal.

I tested negative for H.Plyori through blood test and will try to get an endoscopy done in the near future. My holistic doctor says it's most likely gastritis so we're rolling with that right now.

I've had gastritis and it can be pretty disturbing. But, you can heal it with diet and proper nutrition. My first advice is to get off all PPI medication, if you on it. All the acid blockers compound and actually create the condition. Second, cut out caffeine for a while. Drink lots of water every day. Get some good liquid Aloe concoction to drink a few times a day. Make sure that you're taking digestive enzymes. Lay off the nuts, all grains, dairy and beans. Practice intermittent fasting at least a few days a week to allow your stomach to heal. If you do all of these things, you should find yourself much better in a few weeks. You have to be consistent and give it time though. And lastly, make sure you take some good probiotics foods like sauerkraut, daily if possible. Oh, and eat good cooked vegetables instead of a lot of raw. They're easier on the stomach.

Thanks Rick! Luckily, I'm not taking any PPI meds and am already on an non-inflammatory diet. I do try to eat as much as sauerkraut as possible but I've been doing more kefir. I do take digestive enzymes and recently just ordered some HCL tablets for extra support. Great call on the caffeine, I dropped it cold turkey when I started to have pain. I guess drinking a cup a day on an EMPTY stomach for a year or two didn't help either >< How long did it take for you to heal your stomach? – Cherry Berry Sep 26 2011 at 17:41
It sounds like you're doing the right stuff. I'd say it took me a good 6 months to heal since I really didn't know what exactly to do to make it work. The gastro doctor's advice was to take more PPIs, which I'm convinced, is the WORST thing to do. Anyway, following a Paleo paradigm definitely has speeded the recovery. The HCL tabs can be good, but I think they're actually better if taken right after a meal. – Rick Osborn Sep 27 2011 at 12:49
Thanks Rick. I recently bought mastic gum as well, trying it out and some organic ginger tea without sugar added. – Cherry Berry Sep 30 2011 at 16:13

I get what I think is gastritis once and a while. Though it can last for months when I do get it. I get horrible hunger pangs while being completely stuffed. While I cut back on alcohol and caffeine my only effective coping technique is to allow my self to stuff on meat until it passes. The times that I didn't I gained serious weight to the tune of 40lbs over a couple months.

If the endoscopy is negative, then it could also be Gastroparesis. I was diagnosed in early 2009.

I just looked up your condition, so how do you eat/live with Gastroparesis? Do you just take lots of digestive enzymes and eat small meals? I'm assuming going Paleo helped you? – Cherry Berry Sep 24 2011 at 4:14
Domperidone is often used in addition I have found an Ayurvedic supplement that has been helpful DIVYA GASHAR CHOORNA. I am also working with an integrative medical doctor and an integrative doctor who are helping me detox and rid my system of bugs and other things :) – kari Sep 25 2011 at 4:57

I was diagnosed with alcoholic gastritis during my post-divorce wilding period. It was godawful, I felt like I'd been gut shot. My doctor put me on an antibiotic and an antacid (which I think was just prescription Prilosec), and I had to quit drinking.

I think it took 6-8 weeks before I felt human again and could deal with spicy food without walking around clutching my midsection. I didn't drink for quite a while afterwards and still drink very, very rarely. I've had ferrets with the mustelid form of helicobacter and have a new appreciation for what the little guys go through. :( – coldhandinmine Sep 24 2011 at 4:22

I suffer from gastritis and acid reflux, to the point of thinking that I had a hearth attack, waking up at night with the sensation that I could not breath, went to the doctor for an endoscopy it was confirmed that I had acid reflux, I was prescrived with Nexium and Zantac, followed the tratment for months, but every time I stop using these drugs, the symphtoms where back, douring a trip some one adviced me abouth, ALOE VERA JUICE or Gel, I started using it for two weeks and until now never had problems again, took one spoon before meals, I am so happy to regain my health again, thanks to this advice. Do it you wil se the amazing recovery. Of course I loose some weight and also went on a diet, try and see for your self.

Good look and be always thankful
