I'm right at the one year mark of switching from a very strict vegan eating regimen to a very strict paleo one. I got Robb Wolf's book last year, read it and was impressed, tried it and have never looked back. I feel great.

Regarding blood pressure, though, it immediatly, upon implementation of the paleo eating, went from a consistent 115/75 to 130ish over 85. Not terribly worrying, but noteworthy. I've been at 115/75 for many, many years, so I did indeed note the increase.

Anyway, I'm now back in the 115/75 range. Literally nothing has changed over the course of the year with regard to diet, sleeping, exercise, stress or any of the other usual suspects.

It's just sort of curious to me. I'm not worried and never really was. Has anyone else had a marker such as blood pressure change at the one-year-mark for paleo eating? I remember reading something from Chris Masterjohn about LDL possibly dropping after a year of paleo.

(I maybe should be getting that checked, as the LDL shot up from 110 to 195 after just a few weeks of paleo. I'm not too worried about that, either.)

Maybe your visceral fat sequestered toxins, which were being re-metabolized as you burned the fat.

I think I've got this right, if I understand some of the technical mumbo-jumbo I've read. I think it's a commonplace occurrence. Sure hope so, because it's what gives me patience as I try to get off my last CHF medicine.

My BP is serious. Yours? Ha ha! You got NOTHIN' to worry about!

Thanks for the input! You're probably spot on. For what it's worth, I shed 20 pounds within 6 weeks of leaving veganhood..... right off the bat it all came off. I've held steady at my present weight since that time, and it's a weight I'm very happy with. I don't know if that has anything to do with anything or not. – Kirik Sep 24 2011 at 21:32

My blood pressure went down on Paleo and actually allowed me to stop taking meds. The affect was almost immediate. The wheat products were causing water retention, which was raising my blood pressure, without them the water retention issue is much less and my blood pressure went down.
