I've found a really local (to me) source for grass-fed beef by the side at $2.99/lb. Anyone in the Cleveland/Akron/Canton/Youngstown area interested on going in? It totals 300-400 pounds. My family is good for 100 lbs but I'm willing to work out divying up the rest however. I mostly want stew meat/bones, so would be willing to share quite a few steaks.

I'm not in OH, so I can't help, but +1 for 'cowpooling' because that made me giggle. – A at Grain Free Diet Sep 26 2011 at 22:06

Are you having Duma grass-finish the steer? They only do that on request - they grain-finish their beef. I'd suggest going to Jon Berger or Paul Yoder - they do exclusively grass-fed. Jon (at Green Vista Farm) is a little more expensive, but has a greater availability; they both also do pastured Berkshire hogs and chickens as well, if I'm not mistaken. I also agree with Carl - you should contact the folks at Whitefeather Meats - they know EVERYONE who does EVERYTHING in the area and are the most knowledgeable folks I've ever met, to say nothing of the nicest.

If you should talk to Jon at Green Vista, we'll be willing to go in on an entire steer - we buy a side of beef at a time from him, and an entire steer is slightly cheaper.

Yeah, I'm aware of the grain finishing - they started advertising grass-fed on their website, and I called to ensure it was grass-finished. They said it was. They're like 10 minutes from my house, which is more convenient than arranging pickup with Green Vista. – Jessica G Sep 27 2011 at 0:13

I would do that but don't have the freezer space. Where is it? Whitefeather Meats?

No, it's Duma's in Mogadore. I live in Kent, so it's like 10 mins away. We'd been using Green Vista Farms, but this is closer and less expensive. There's grass-fed beef all over the place! – Jessica G Sep 26 2011 at 19:57
Oh, rats - I answered your question before I saw you'd been using Jon Berger. But, like I said, Duma only grass-finishes on request. – JansSushiBar Sep 26 2011 at 20:48
I'm glad to see support here for Jon and Green Vista (Whitefeather is who does the precessing). – Carl_Stawicki Sep 27 2011 at 15:55

I'm up in the Mentor area. Do you have contact info for the seller?

dumameatsfarmmarket.com - a little far for you, but I'd be willing to drop it off if you're interested. I also know of someone in Ashtabula county who does grass-fed lamb and beef if you're interested. – Jessica G Sep 27 2011 at 0:14
