I've found a really local (to me) source for grass-fed beef by the side at $2.99/lb. Anyone in the Cleveland/Akron/Canton/Youngstown area interested on going in? It totals 300-400 pounds. My family is good for 100 lbs but I'm willing to work out divying up the rest however. I mostly want stew meat/bones, so would be willing to share quite a few steaks.

Are you having Duma grass-finish the steer? They only do that on request - they grain-finish their beef. I'd suggest going to Jon Berger or Paul Yoder - they do exclusively grass-fed. Jon (at Green Vista Farm) is a little more expensive, but has a greater availability; they both also do pastured Berkshire hogs and chickens as well, if I'm not mistaken. I also agree with Carl - you should contact the folks at Whitefeather Meats - they know EVERYONE who does EVERYTHING in the area and are the most knowledgeable folks I've ever met, to say nothing of the nicest. If you should talk to Jon at Green Vista, we'll be willing to go in on an entire steer - we buy a side of beef at a time from him, and an entire steer is slightly cheaper. |

I would do that but don't have the freezer space. Where is it? Whitefeather Meats? |
