Possible Duplicate:
How much meat do you eat?

The Paleo Diet recommends 55% of calories per day. That's about 1.5lbs of lean ground beef. Are you all really eating that much meat a day? That must be crazy expensive. It also has ~130% of your RDA of sat fat and ~150% of your RDA of cholesterol. I guess it looks a lot better for Sirloin. What about chicken and turkey? I'm not accustomed to cooking and eating so much meat.

Which book recommends 55% of protein calories per day? That seems high. – Beth-WeightMaven Sep 28 2011 at 15:35

Everybody is different - do what feels right for you. But I strongly encourage you to overcome your fear of saturated fat and cholesterol. This is the first step in becoming healthy. – Dave S. Sep 28 2011 at 17:15

You don't have to eat a specific amount of meat, just make sure to get enough protien. 80-100g is a good start, possibly more if you are athletic. The paleo diet book isn't that great for nutritional info, you'd be better off reading some marksdailyapple blog posts or searching around paleohacks.

I eat 4 eggs for breakfast and .5 lbs of meat for lunch and dinner. I sometimes skip lunch.

3-4 eggs for breakfast with either 6oz of pork or 3-4 slices of bacon.

Couple oz of fish or chicken for lunch on a salad.

3/4-1 pound steak or couple chicken breasts for dinner.

I shoot for 160g protein daily.

Edit: Yeah, it can be expensive.. but that is why I buy whole chickens and cut them up myself, buy beef/bison in bulk at costco, etc.

The meat at Costco isn't grass fed though – balor123 Sep 28 2011 at 15:45

I've been known to eat a 1lb steak for dinner, but I probably average about .75lb-1lb per day. Like Cliff said, don't worry about eating a specific amount of meat (I also wouldn't put much stock into the RDAs for fat). Play around with different amounts & see what works best for you, as far as how you feel and what you can afford (and there's a lot of good info out there about making this work on a budget; it doesn't have to be expensive). Good luck! :)

No. I'm not 'paleo' at all by that metric. I get a vast majority of my calories from fats, and I also eat significant amounts of starch.

I eat about 1/2 lb of meat or fish and 3-4 eggs, most days. I don't have an appetite for much more flesh than that, unless it's an excellent steak. Plus I am poor.

Keep in mind I weigh about 105 lbs.

I do CrossFit 3x per week and a day of heavy lifting. I am 175 and generally aim for around 120-150 grams per day and that has seems to work pretty well as far as gaining muscle and strength goes. If I didn’t do all that, I would go for 80-120 grams per day. That’s just me :)
