I like butter oil because it keeps my lips from being dry and chapped. However, I am extremely sensitive to dairy products and get acne from butter oil. So, is there a substitute for butter oil?

Are you using it for your skin/lips specifically, or do you cook with it? By butter oil, you mean clarified butter/ghee? Just curious. – waywardsister Jul 6 2010 at 0:00

Ditto this. Coconut oil is ALL I use for lips, skin and hair. – Blue -the Thrifty Mom Jul 1 2010 at 18:39

i've recently switched off of chapstick to using propolis lip balm ( a free sample I procured). Ingredients list says almond oil, coconut oil, beeswax, propolis extract, and grapefruit oil.

I may just switch over to coconut oil after this thing runs out...how do you all not just eat the stuff straight off your skin?! I can't get enough of it!

Sometimes my pup licks the coconut oil off my calves while I am getting ready for work... – TexasPrimalSurfWahine -TPSW- Jul 1 2010 at 19:13
At my old BJJ club the coaches pit bull used to lick the sweat off our legs. Still not sure how I feel about being used as a salt lick. But I do second the coconut oil – Corey Jul 2 2010 at 6:21

I use olive oil and castor oil, as well as coconut oil. You can melt a tiny bit of raw beeswax and mix in whatever oils you like, with a couple of drop of Vitamin E. Makes a nice salve for lips, cuticles, elbows, heels, etc. Jojoba oil is nice, too.

Some like shea butter. Others have unpleasant reactions to it.
