Does anyone know if mini pumpkins are edible? The farmer's market just started selling pumpkins and we always end up wasting a lot because I only eat a tiny portion. So I wondered if those little mini pumpkins that people use as decoration are edible because I could get two portions out of one with no waste.

Mini pumpkins are not bred for flavor, but to be decorative. I'm sure you can eat them, but they might not be as delicious. You can cook a whole pumpkin and freeze the pureed leftovers to use later. – lunabelle Oct 1 2011 at 22:49

Cooking mini pumpkins makes me sad. Probably because my grandma used to give each of us grandkids ones which she hand-painted every Halloween. I have an irrational, yet strong emotional attachment to mini pumpkins and the little paper bags from Ace Hardware. Yes, I am weird. – Nemesis Oct 2 2011 at 4:27

I have always wondered that too and once I bought one, baked it and ate it. It tasted pretty good. Here's a recipe (minus the maple syrup).

Mini pumpkins are GREAT for roasting in the crockpot, since they're smaller.

(Makes me think I should buy one next time I'm out and about... :-) )
