And I feel AWFUL. My self esteem has gone way done. I feel ugly and bloated.

I want to be "cleansed" (the feeling I get after my first week of paleo) but for some reason I have a really difficult time during the school year. I come home from school and am so hungry and literally eat everything in site. Someone please help me!! I need some paleo foods I can eat RIGHT after school that won't have me too full for soccer.

Thanks!

Little girl, a) eat black chocolate, 50-80 g per day after school b) eat Vitamin C, 2-4g per day in multiple doses, it will help with stress, c) bacon and eggs are always a good and quick idea, e) do not fast d) do not restrict your calories. – majkinetor Oct 6 2011 at 10:02

Every woman and girl feels ugly and bloated sometimes for a bunch of different reasons. It goes away quickly and comes back and goes away. Don't beat yourself up and definitely don't call yourself ugly. You are very pretty. Just wear clothes that make you feel good on those days and wait it out until your diet or cycle make you feel better. Hang in there and don't obsess. – BaconHealsChic Oct 6 2011 at 11:06

Please don't call her little girl. I bet anything you wouldn't call an adolescent boy "little boy." Sorry--you hit a nerve. I remember feeling patronized in that way when I was a young woman. Anyway, good advice, though. – staceychev Oct 6 2011 at 11:07

I wouldn't mind at all you calling me little boy – majkinetor Oct 6 2011 at 11:59

How strict paleo are you, exactly? Isn't it easy to eat nuts, fruits, eggs, bone broth, coconut oil, sweet potatoes or sweet potato chips, beef jerky, ... ? If you want to eat some of those immediately after school, why not make some hard-boiled eggs the day before when you have time? – Korion Oct 6 2011 at 13:03

You also might eat a big breakfast as well. It might help.

You're young and active, there's no reason why you can't have some fruit, or paleo starches like sweet potatoes. Hardboiled eggs are pretty good too, filling and quick to make (or you can make them ahead of time and leave them in fridge for after school.)

I rally liked your suggestion with hardboiled eggs. I ate two after school with some cantaloupe, and I feel like I have enough energy for a good workout and then a nice meal of potroast, compliments of my mother :) – Amberlie Oct 6 2011 at 22:58

So you're still growing and in a calorie deficit daily already--plus you're active. I think it's great you are tackling paleo so well at your age. I would just be careful not to bother with fasting yet. Do that later when you are older. Right now enjoy sweet potatoes, lots of good fat, meat, nuts, berries and I 2nd maj's chocolate.

Also...try not to obsess...good fasting habits can quickly turn to too much fasting and a quick fix for when your diet just needs more quality and better timing.

I would suggest berries, nuts after school before soccer. Also...really good quality hot dogs like Tanka Dogs or just a good kosher brand with some Bubbie's sauerkraut is really fast and not as filling. You could have some coconut milk over some frozen blueberries or make a smoothie. Or you could have some full fat greek yogurt with some fruit and nuts. Sweet potatoes with some coconut oil or butter and salt and cinnamon.

Check out Sarah Fragoso's site and podcast. She has a ton of suggestions for kids your age. Everyday Paleo

And...you are still a little girl to me too. (That's a GOOD thing.) Don't grow up to fast. Enjoy. Enjoy and stay excited without getting obsessive.

I'm not really doing paleo to lose weight (what I would have liked to lose has already turned to muscle) but I get sick really often and my older brother suggested this. But I'm feeling a lot better and I love everyone's suggestions! – Amberlie Oct 6 2011 at 23:00

How about a bowl of bone broth soup? Eat that 2 hours before your soccer practice. That will kill your appetite for anything starchy. After your practice, replenish by having some yams or sweet potatoes.

Sounds like you need to perhaps feed your brain a bit while at school. Go a combination of a small handful of walnuts, macadamias, cashews, and blueberries. Even better, make yourself some Paleo Coconut/Nut/Cocoa balls and take a few to school. The protein hits through the day should keep your appetite suppressed.

The last time I fell off the bandwagon was a couple of days ago. I fasted the day after and have eaten probably less than 300 calories for a couple days after that (I had very minimal hunger pangs during this time, i probably binged enough to sustain me for a week)... I was feeling nasty at first, but today I'm fantastic. Consider fasting to reset your body and mind.

You can't say to little girl to fast. Thats probably the reason. – majkinetor Oct 6 2011 at 10:03

Amberlie~ Your body "cleanses" itself daily. That's what our liver & kidneys do for us. No need to fast. – Dragonfly Oct 6 2011 at 10:22

@Dragonfly My daughters are grown women and I still call them baby-girls. I think 15 isn't quite a woman yet. She's definitely on her way. Wish I had been that aware and smart at 15. – Deborah105 Oct 6 2011 at 10:25

@Dragonfly: Yes, in some countries even 12 is a woman. For mothers, they are little girls forever. Semantics. – majkinetor Oct 6 2011 at 12:00
