I just started going to a chiropractor again, and while we're on the same page about clean eating, he does recommend people go through a purification twice a year. They use Standard Process, which I have never heard of. I thought I'd ask you guys what you thought of it. It's for 21 days at a time:

Personally, I'd much rather do Primal Blueprint to lose weight than eat just salad, lentils/brown rice, shakes and supplements, but is there anything to this, oh wise PaleoHacks? The shakes are made with rice powder and whey.

Tell him you need to see peer-reviewed science on why you have to go through "purification" twice a year. The liver will "detox" itself if you give it a break from neolithic crap - which you already have. A fast couldn't hurt either. Buying a bunch of detox products will simply take money out of your wallet. I think you know our position on lentils/brown rice - better than Oreos, worse than beef liver... 21 days of that "purification" and you'll probably feel like $h%t compared to paleo. – Dave S. Maybe it is a bi-annual wallet purification process ;) – Happy Now Oct 7 2011 at 16:10
BTW...for your chiropractor, tell them to check into the ICA(International Chiropractic Association) Wellness Certification Courses. Dr. James Chestnut DC wrote the nutrition part (and most other parts) of the course and calls it the Innate Diet....it is basically paleo. – JayJay Oct 7 2011 at 18:51
I figure that I don't need help going, as it's sometimes TOO easy, if you know what I mean. And if I go on this, it would be like if I ate Kashi GoLean Crunch. Scary. – Heather Oct 7 2011 at 23:40

I don't think that this sort of thing is necessary for most healthy people.

If I was going to do a sort of reboot of my intestinal flora I would do bone broth with supplements of fresh vegetable juice. I limit fiber for a while to help get some die off of the bacteria that focus more on processing carbs, but this is controversial, it is just what seems to help me.

Is it controversial? 'Cuz it just makes sense to me. – Dave S. Oct 7 2011 at 14:09
Limiting fiber seems to upset some people :) – Vrimj Oct 7 2011 at 14:19

The diet doesn't suck BUT when I read about purification, I think 'fasting'. To me, a one day fast with some lemon juice makes more sense than this diet. You already eat good. This SP diet is for people who desperately SAD. SAD food eaters have sad bodies.

Meh, I actually like Standard Process's approach to supplementation and they do provide quality products, but I'm not on board with their purification program that is based in CW. They do get some points in my book for whole food, organic supplements though.

ask him how he will measure your purity levels before and after so you can see how well you cleaned up.
