Has anyone ever tried desiccated beef liver powder or capsules?

I know the whole idea of eating healthy is to eat real whole foods and not supplements for maximum health benefits, but I know there are many of us that don't like the taste of liver. Most of the supplements I see of this type come from cows raised in Argentina. Does anyone think this type of supplement is worth taking?

Or am I better off eating braunschweiger/liverwurst with nitrates instead of the liver capsules?

I also can't stand liver so I started mixing it in with my ground beef for hamburger meat at a 1:4 liver to hamburger. Can't taste it at all if you season your meat. – Nutritionator Oct 11 2011 at 3:34

I asked the provider I am currently working with about taking the powdered beef liver instead of fresh and he said "Powdered liver lacks vitamin K and other unstable oily vitamins". Sorry that I can't back that up. I can't stand the taste of liver, no matter the cooking method.

Thanks Senneth. The liver powder is usually defatted so that probably explains the lack of oily vitamins. Taking away the fat probably increases shelf life and product stability and prevents the powder from going rancid. – Wcc Kamal Stabby fan Oct 10 2011 at 20:57

After reading this on Cheeseslave's page I am hesitant to take any liver powder supplements from Argentina: http://www.cheeseslave.com/2008/05/23/arsenic-in-solgar-liver-tablets/

I may look into liver powder from New Zealand instead.

I suppose if I were going on a long trip, and couldn't get the real stuff, it might be convenient to bring some along... but...

Considering how much liver you'd need to get much nutritional value, how many pills per day would you really need to take to get equivalent quantities? (Thinking of my own experiences with fish oil caps vs bottled fish oil, in particular)

It doesn't really have any of the good fat soluble stuff you want liver for. It does supposedly contain p450 though which has some very interesting properties and has 250% b6 per serving.

If the liver pill is defatted, doesn't that mean it won't have any vitamin A? (or small amounts anyway.)
