They taste pretty terrible to me, other than their unsweetened coconut milk ice cream (although has sugar alcohols I think). I've tried their unsweetened coconut milk multiple times, and also their coconut 'kefir'. I was so excited by the concept but both taste tasteless and strangely artificial/gummy/cardboardy. I feel like I'm the only person I've heard not like it (along with Trader Joe's coconut milk--that stuff is icky too). Apologies if this is not an allowable question. Thanks.

I've tried their coconut milk too, and couldn't even finish the carton. What a gross texture it had! I much prefer getting the canned Goya leche de coco coconut milks--they stopped adding the xantham gum to them. – Nemesis Oct 10 2011 at 11:36

No, you're not crazy at all. The stuff is nasty! – Kimmie Oct 10 2011 at 11:45

You are correct, So Delicious is so disgusting. – FED at LiveCaveman.com Oct 10 2011 at 22:43

The sweetened "ice cream" is pretty good... but everything else is disgusting. I've tried a few of their coconut milk options and couldn't deal with more than a sip. And that "kefir" stuff is just... ugh... spit it out! – jj Jan 25 2012 at 1:07
Thumbs down for SD. I love Thai Kitchen organic coconut milk. It is for real 'so delicious'. I primarily use unsweetened almond milk for coffee and such, but always go to the TK coconut milk for recipes any chance I get. It's way creamy. – MeepsIsWellfed Feb 3 2012 at 17:38

I think their products taste nasty as well...they use gum thickeners, and add water, so they must be fairly processed...I just stick with coconut milk, either freshly made, or from a can.

I don't find it offensive at all, though I agree that it's a bit watery. I guess maybe that's why I sort of like it sometimes--it's less rich tasting/feeling than pure coconut milk, and sometimes I want something more bland. But I also think they over-thicken it, so that it's thicker than actual milk. I wish they'd leave it more watery in texture, in addition to it's watery flavor! And it does have good fat in it.

i'm with you. i don't love it, but sometimes i get in the mood for drinking something other than water -- this does the trick! – meret Jan 25 2012 at 3:24
I did just go back and read the label, and saw that it has guar gum. I don't seem to react to it, but have noted that some like Chris Kresser don't like this ingredient, which I gather is derived from beans. I'll finish what I have, but might think twice before buying more. Or maybe not--I tend to be a little wishy washy about these things at times! – Christopher Gagnon Jan 25 2012 at 4:16

What about pure coconut oil? I mix mine with chocolate, sesame seeds, goji, pumpkin seeds, and myriad other ingredients... No sweetener as I'm a type II diabetic.

Having said that, I do know people who do not like the flavour of coconut. Everyone is different. I do feel badly for them since I believe coconut oil to be one of the most beneficial fats out there.

She was asking about milks, not oils. You can't chug oil, lol. – Nemesis Oct 10 2011 at 11:36

Just tried it tonight. I love anything coconut and was excited to see what it was like. I poured it on my cereal and noted it was gummy looking. I was so disappointed to find that it tasted like water. Really, really gross.

What are the best other options? Just starting out this is the only 'milk' product I've had, should I be buying it in the can (or lots of cans?). I don't mind the blandness b/c it kind of reminds me of Skim milk...

I'm going to say your taste buds are crazy. I've tried several kinds of coconut milk and this one is my favorite!

I just dumped two cartons of it down the sink. It was thick, chalky and disgusting. I'd rather have NOTHING on my cereal, but I like almond milk, rice milk or even organic soy better than that stuff. EWWW!

Do not eat soy! – Chelsea Oct 13 at 1:09

Mimic Creme is much better! It can also be stored in your freezer & most importantly for me, I can freeze the meals I prepare with this product. If you are allergic to nuts, this won't be for you.
