Let me say first that I feel perfectly fine. I have been eating basically vlc to zero carb for the last 5 days or so (probably averaging less than 20grams per day). Yesterday, I did about 3 hours of exercise, bike/walk/jog, always staying below 120bpm heart rate, averaged 105bpm over the course of three hours (RHR 42ish / max 196). I could actually see the fat loss when I got back home.
Now, about 24 hours later, I just had some white stool mixed in with regular stool. Again everything else seems fine to me. Just looks like someone bleached my poo. Should I be concerned? Does anyone here know?
I don't feel concerned but just seems way out of the ordinary and a cursory google search indicates that it could be liver or gallbladder issues.
P.S. I have been taking a lot of primal calm for stress (don't ask why), which is basically a calcium and magnesium supplement? Could that do anything?
I don't know about in adults, but I work with babies, and white poo always warrants an immediate trip to the doctor. It is important to know if your liver and gallbladder are functioning properly.
Everything I've seen/heard about with white poo warrants a trip to the hospital. Unless you're taking a medication with white poo as a possible side effect.
So, ya probably should seek medical attention...
Right -- get checked. You might be too far into ketosis, or been doing it for too long. NO MEDICAL PROFESSSIONAL HERE -- but at the least I'd stop the VLC immediately. And get checked! Better to know for sure than to risk it and get yourself into serious trouble.
I'm going to pop in here and question if the problem persisted and if you went for tests?
It seems to be that everything you ate that day after your espresso was white. So you started your day with a stimulant, then ate fat. Both of those will "grease the rails" so to speak. Then you ate a bunch of fiber and white food. I'm going to guess it was undigested food coming out. I've noticed this can happen to me when I "grease the rails" and am particularaly stressed, also if I work out in a way that promotes rapid bowl movements.
I had a white stool when I ran out of coconut oil. My fat intake decreased significantly, very rapidly. I believe dietary fat intake stimulates bile to break it down, so I think with the miniscule (by comparison) amount of fat in my diet my body needed to re-regulate its bile production (took 1-2 days).
Hope this helps.
Light colored stools are a sign of steatorrhea, the presence of excess fat in your stool. This is common for people with beginning VLC diets whose body has not adapted to the high intake of fat.
Steatorrhea can be a sign of more serious conditions. However, The macadamia nuts might of been too much for your body to handle. I would try lowering your fat intake to see if that helps. You can also try to trade out macadamia nuts for Coconut oil as the MCT's are more easily digested. See if that helps and then try increasing your fat intake as needed so that your body can adjust to the higher fat levels.
