So, I hit the broth pretty hard for a few weeks, and then went out for a pizza night with some friends and much to my surprise I didn't "pay for it" in the way I usually do. Is that an indication that my gut has healed, or just a lucky coincidence?

just curious, did you do nothing but broth? Because the GAPS protocol does see some healing in a few weeks unless you are in bad shape. Would love more details.....oh and I hope you are healed!! – Kelly Oct 11 2011 at 1:17
I did bone broth plus a bunch of random meat and veggies tossed for breakfast and dinner for a solid week, and then off and on for the following week. So, 20ish bone broth based meals in 2 weeks. – Happy Now Oct 11 2011 at 1:48
I wonder if the secret to our grandparents not having the same problems with wheat that people seem to nowadays could be related to the massive amount of home made soup they consumed? – Happy Now Oct 11 2011 at 1:49

That's an interesting hypothesis. I tend to think that it's the fact that they didn't consume it in combination with rancid seed oils and high-fructose corn syrup, like most people do now, plus their use of traditional long fermentation methods (sourdough) as opposed to quick yeast and a short rising period for bread. – Olivia Oct 11 2011 at 2:12

What Olivia said + probably a million other fake/poisonous environmental factors they didn't have to deal with too. – Nutritionator Oct 11 2011 at 2:42

Sounds like a healthy/healing gut to me. Bone broth or simply minimizing exposure over time? I'd guess the latter.
