All I've got now is a little rival crockette, no knobs, no switch, just one low temperature which works fine for what I've done so far. But now I wanna cook heart meat, which calls for a boil & simmer. I can bring up the boil in the microwave, but the crockette falls shy of full simmer, I think. Do other crock pots have simmer options? The ones with knobs & switches?

Most adjustable crock pots will hold a simmer on the LOW setting, and a boil on the HIGH. I agree with the others about grilling the heart, however. |

Cook it Hungarian-style. Brown heart with a good amount of fat in a pot (or whatever). Transfer to slowcooker, and then add in plenty of onions, wax peppers (if you got them, otherwise red peppers), and then a good amount of paprika. Salt to taste, and then slow cook on low for 6-8 hours. Otherwise, you don't need to boil then simmer a heart. Just toss it in, and let it go. |
