I know generally frozen fruit and vegetables are better than the "fresh" (but not so fresh) ones sitting out, but how about canned vs. frozen produce?

Also, canned meat vs. frozen meat vs. "fresh" meat? Which one is a better option?

There's a good article in Consumer Reports on Health this month on this topic. Unfortunately, it is a paid subscription and there's no online version. Basically, the order of quality is: local fresh, frozen, non-local fresh, canned (also has BPA typically). I'm not sure about meat but my guess is there's no difference.

You couldn't pay me enough to want to eat canned meat!

You're missing out. I get locally sourced "canned" meat and it's essentially slow-cooked meat in a jar with no additives and ready to eat as is. Ultimate convenience food. – Matt Oct 17 2011 at 10:19
Interesting, you have tweaked my curiosity. Maybe my original post was a bit hasty. What kinds of meat? – peter Oct 17 2011 at 10:29
Yes, there's bound to be a big difference between locally-grown meat of your own choosing, cut into chunks and canned in glass jars; versus meat from who-knows-where-and-from-how-many-animals canned in plastic-coated tins in a factory somewhere. – Aaron B. Oct 17 2011 at 16:44
Sardines and Salmon canned are great! Make sure you get them in olive oil or water. – Ben Nash Oct 17 2011 at 17:48
