Hi guys! So I have been strict paleo for almost four months now. At the beginning I lost fifteen pounds. I am 5'5" and went from 130 to 114. I am so happy with this! I am eating eggs for breakfast in the morning. No more than two at a time, usually only one. I also have some watermelon or honeydew with it. Then for lunch I have either chicken, or tilapia or salmon, with bell peppers, onions, avocado, tomoatoes and some homemade BBQ sauce. I also have a handful of grapes at this point. Then for dinner I have either chicken, fish, spaghetti squash, or even some beef (beef does not happen that often). I then make up a stir fry of vegetables which usually consists of carrots, bell peppers, cauliflower, broccoli, and onions, all sauteed in olive oil (sometimes coconut oil). I also have fruit with dinner. Sometimes strawberries, but usually grapes or melon again. Can you tell I love my fruit?? This might be my downfall.I also have a handful of nuts as a snack between lunch and dinner (always walnuts). The problem is I have been at 114 for a month, and I have not changed ANYTHING in my diet. I work out 1-2 times a week for about an hour at a time doing half cardio half strength. The last week I have weighed in at 115-116 each time. I know that it is only a couple pounds, but I am wondering why it wont go back down now. I was even at 114 and enjoying it! I do not want to see it continue to raise. The other problem that I am experiencing is terrible indigestion/heart burn, which I have never had before. I am wondering what could be causing that as well. I am going to try to take fruit out of the diet for a while and see if that pushes me back down to 114, but I dont see why it would suddenly start raising when nothing has changed. Any suggestions or ideas would be great!

I also would let you know that I have less that 3 oz of meat at each time. Maybe this could be a problem too? Not sure. – Jenn Oct 19 2011 at 17:15

114 lbs at 5'5"? Sounds good to me! Do you have more fat to lose? Aren't you building muscle too? I don't know that you have anything to worry about! :) – Ruth Oct 19 2011 at 17:23
i have weighed my body fat as 19.2, so I guess some of it could be muscle, but as a woman you hate to see any of it go up – Jenn Oct 19 2011 at 17:26
your weight is not going to keep going down forever - think of the results if that were how this worked. You've settled into what your body is comfy at. Your numbers sound good anyway. if you want less bodyfat than what youve settled at youre going to have to work at it - caloric deficit and some kind of energy expenditure beyond what you are currently at. – ben61820 Oct 19 2011 at 17:48

I agree with the others that it sounds like you are doing pretty well, overall. Maybe add in another workout or walk more as Travis suggests. Just looking at your diet, I personally wonder if you actually eat enough (different from another previous response). 3 oz of meat or less is not very much. Considering the types of foods you are eating look "clean," the indigestion and heartburn is puzzling. I'm mostly speculating but wonder if eating too little food can cause an excess of stomach acid for the amount actually eaten.

I should try eating more meat. I think that could help. I was only keeping it there because I had read a study that suggested eating only about 3 oz of meat with each meal. I should up this a little bit. Thank you! – Jenn Oct 19 2011 at 19:06

5'5" 114 is super lean for a female to the point where your hypothalamus would start getting involved to try to get you to add some body fat. I don't think it would be healthy to try to go much lower.

That said, if you want to lose fat in your current situation you should walk a lot more.

I suggest not worrying about it ;) We fluctuate all the time, and I'm thinking a small amount like that could have to do with how much food is in your belly, your menstrual cycle, etc. If you find yourself really gaining, I'd cut the nuts and make your meals a little bigger; you'll probably be better off having a little more meat instead.

Just eating more salt could account for the difference. – Travis Culp Oct 19 2011 at 17:26

Maybe it's just because I rarely eat half of what you are eating in a day, but it just seems like you are eating way. too. much. Fruit isn't a problem, it's still a natural food so if you love fruit, don't stop eating it because others tell you too. It's more than likely the nuts, elimate that is what I'd say. After eating Paleo for only a few months, my appetite has gone way down. Sometimes I'll go almost 24 hours without feeling a hunger pang. Only eat when you are hungry, is my motto.

I've gotta respectfully disagree on the first part- I can't see how she's eating too much, especially only weighing 115lbs. Jenn hasn't listed many quantities here, other than 1 or 2 eggs with fruit for breakfast, and less than 3oz of meat per serving. – Jules K Oct 19 2011 at 18:14

I think that if you eat your fruit separate from your cooked meals that will take care of the indigestion. On a food combining level fruit should always be eaten alone and away from other foods because it digests so quickly and if you eat it after things that take more time to digest it gets backed up leading to indigestion/digestive stress.

i'm 5'5" and 114 is borderline anorexic. you might want to rethink your body image. paleo is not for getting ridiculously skinny it is to be strong and healthy. i am hearing you talk to much about weight loss verses building good strong muscles. seek some mental counseling on your food disorder. you are interfering with your female hormones.

I'm sorry, I had to downvote this; I get your concerns but we can't diagnose people with disorders on here. – Jules K Oct 19 2011 at 18:21

Thank you Jules. I do not feel that I am anorexic. And I actually believe diagnosing me with a mental disorder and suggesting counseling is going a little too far... – Jenn Oct 19 2011 at 19:03
