What is your favorite naughty paleo treat...when what you really want is that snickers bar?

Coconut milk ice cream...it has agave, which technically isnt paleo, but damn is it good! Creamy, fatty, filling and slightly sweet. I found a company that makes it about an hour away from my house so that makes me feel better about eating local. I probably eat it too much though.... – McMeghann Oct 19 2011 at 21:17

Or you can make your own and only put good stuff in there ;) – Nutritionator Oct 20 2011 at 13:33

Something about the sweetness and texture of bananas really satisfies as it reminds me of all those sweet SAD carbs like cake and pancakes, so I tend go a bit bananas (groan) when making Paleo-friendly treats. My favourites include;

A frozen banana dipped in a little dark chocolate.

Bananas and cream or Greek yoghurt.

If you really want to push the boat out;

Banana flambé (ripe bananas sautéed with butter, dark rum, slivered almonds and a sprinkling of Demerara sugar) served with cream.

An unpeeled banana with a few squares of very dark chocolate inserted, wrapped in foil and baked until the chocolate is melted and the banana is just a pool of molten deliciousness.

ETA: I feel that I should give credit where due. The last one is a holdover from my Girl Guides days, and trust me, yes it does taste better when cooked in the embers of a campfire and eaten kneeling in the grass, steaming hot and straight out of the foil with a disposable spork.

OMG for baked bananas! I'm gonna have to try that! – HamHock Oct 19 2011 at 21:54
Gag! Anymore than one banana makes me have a gag reflex I have to eat it slow if I really want one. And I'm a fruit eater. – Edward J. Edmonds Oct 19 2011 at 23:41
Ha, ha - I guess you could leave the bananas/almonds out of the flambé recipe and make some sort of hot rum toddy instead. How's that appeal to you? – Simibee Oct 19 2011 at 23:49

Not sure if this is paleo (maybe more primal) but I love cutting up fruit and throwing it in some whipped up heavy cream. It helps me get through the rough times lol. Also paleo cookies... I don't even use honey to sweeten anymore- just loads of cut up fruit in a (almond/pecan/or coconut meal) cookie! lol

Yum for cut-up fruit as as sufficient sweetener. – January Oct 19 2011 at 21:23
This is what I do as well (although I sometimes used well-drained tinned fruit if I'm feeling particularly lazy - keeping an eye on the sugar content on the label, of course). – KiwiRed Oct 21 2011 at 10:29

At all times I have about five half liter containers of natural vanilla ice cream in the freezer. It has milk, eggs, sugar, and vanilla. And I make it myself sometimes. I don't really think it's naughty unless you don't care for the sugar or it invades the overall quality of your diet... something I call "calorie displacement syndrome" where you're addicted to the stuff and your overall diet suffers as a result. Still you couldn't ask for more joy in such a small space.

I also do homemade hot chocolate with the real cocoa powder. Cocoa, milk, cream, dash of salt, water, sugar. – Edward J. Edmonds Oct 20 2011 at 0:07

Coconut butter mixed with a little cocoa powder, a dash of cinnamon, and a few crushed walnuts or pecans.

To me, it almost tastes like cheesecake.

I pig out on succulent medjool dates. I can clear an entire box of those things!

I'm with you and Rouge Nutrionist on the medjool. I can have just one or one cut up in homemade yoghurt made with cream and add a half of a sliced banana. Often the scale is not my friend after that, but I recover and do it again. – Doris Oct 20 2011 at 12:05

"...naughty paleo treat": NO SUCH THING. Cheesecake Factory: STRAIGHT-UP CHEAT. C'mon- masturbating is a naughty paleo treat.

I take an oskri organic fig bar and coat the top and bottom of it with fresh coconut flakes by pressing them into the bar under wax paper. I'm considering drizzling some melted Green & Black's Organic 85% Dark Chocolate over just to be really naughty.

date-coconut rolls. Wish they were sold individually wrapped.

I make these paleo (ish) brownies in mugs in my crockpot. THEY ARE AWESOME! I adapted the recipe from Baker Gal.

Very interesting idea - I think I'll have to save the link for further, um, investigation. – KiwiRed Oct 21 2011 at 10:34

Baked sweet potato fries loaded with butter/coconut oil, cinnamon, and salt! Its not really a treat by most peoples standards but when you end up eating 4 sweet potatoes worth of fries then its hard to consider it healthy.

sounds fantastic! – Mallory Oct 20 2011 at 15:10

A tablespoon of butter dipped in a little bit of stevia. Mmm. I'm strange, I know.

Frozen bananas blended with coconut milk, or a cup of extremely cold almond butter. I avoid dairy because I end up binging on it, so when I want ice cream I eat similarly cold and creamy substitutes. My non-paleo mother keeps Ben N Jerry's in the freezer and while I gag at her toast and pasta, I whimper a little when I see her tenderly spoon up Bonnaroo Buzz.

Primal Brownies - eggs, coconut (not coconut flour -- whole coconut ground in the food processor), dehydrated coconut palm nectar, cinnamon, unsweetened cocoa, cooked sweet potatoes (mashed) and ground/powdered cacao nibs. Sometimes, if we're feelin' froggy, we toss in a handful of crushed pieces of maple sugar ('cause both of us grew up in the North, so we love real maple sugar!!!), but that's only for the holidays or something like that.

If we're talking about going further off the ancestral path, Rum Balls -- basically, I make them with coconut butter, organic/raw unsweetened cocoa powder, coconut nectar, ground pistachios, ground cashews, and really, really GOOD rum.

I like to dip a dark chocolate square into Coconut Manna. It tastes like a Mounds bar. Yum!

Big amazing dates dipped in either almond butter or Artisana tahini(which I'm lucky enough to be able to buy in bulk!!)...yummy, but naughty for me...I get too sugared up, and crave more all day long.

A ripe banana, sprinkled with chopped nuts and drizzled in honey. Heaven! I enjoy it far more than any store-bought confection now -- which I never thought I would.

Fresh sliced peaches with heavy cream...coconut milk with berries...I guess these aren't 'naughty', really, but they're my fave Paleo treats, and calm my cravings for sweets in a heartbeat.

ETA: I just made Julia Child's Chocolate Mousse recipe from "Mastering the Art of French Cooking." It's Paleo once adapted: No added sugar, and using 85% dark chocolate. The ingredients are eggs, butter, and chocolate (she adds orange liqueur and coffee; I added vanilla and almond extracts instead).

IT. WAS. AMAZING. :: chocolate heaven ::

spoon + jar of coconut butter = paleogasm

Lately I've been eating a carrot dipped repeatedly in crunchy almond butter when I get home, and it fulfills some deep nomnomnom eating over the sink need in my soul.

Not that I would turn down a Snickers bar some days.

Dark chocolate! Or, if trying for that ice cream feeling, frozen blueberries drizzles with coconut cream. (the full fat that you use for Thai curries)
