I've been experimenting with Coconut and Almond milks but they all seem to have additives, which includes gums. If you drink these, then what brand do you buy and where do you buy it?

i have whole milk in my coffee and sometimes tea, a nice english cuppa!, and will drink goat milk kefir. it's difficult to find coconut milk without the thickener added, where i live, so if it's organic with guar gum then i buy. – jesuisjuba - paleorepublic.com Oct 20 2011 at 2:21

Split between homemade from shredded coconut (either Let's Do Organic or Bob's Red Mill, whichever is cheaper on amazon at the time I place the order), and Golden Star Coconut Milk. This is from WalMart, so I'm sure it kills puppies and kittens in some way, but it is inexpensive and the ingredient list is just coconut and water.

Is the Walmart product listed a joke or typo? It links to a page for wooden barstool!! LOL :) – Lady_Arwen Oct 19 2011 at 22:54
I didn't stick the link in. It's something called VigLink doing it. Not sure where along the line the issue is - as far as I can tell, it isn't malware on my computer. – jess6 Oct 19 2011 at 23:02
The BPA in the can of coconut milk could potentially kill puppies and kittens. – Caveman formally known as Dan Oct 19 2011 at 23:40
That's the biggest health-related reason we do homemade to a large extent. – jess6 Oct 20 2011 at 0:07

I drink raw milk from my farmer in the next town. I do cook with Thai Kitchen coconut milk, but I don't drink it straight.

I make kefir from raw goat's milk, since I can't handle much lactose. – Dragonfly Oct 19 2011 at 23:08
Same. Raw milk for drinking, raw cream for coffee, otherwise I don't drink "milk substitutes.". Will occasionally use BPA-free coconut milk when cooking. – AmandaLP Mar 29 2012 at 5:18

I drink regular old milk from Germany, it's in a glass bottle non-homogenized and gently pasteurized and grass fed. 1-2 liters a day straight down the hatch.

that's what I use too, when I got through a milk phase :) I sometimes cut all dairy out, but end up going back to it because I need the calcium. – Bread-Eating Beelzebub Oct 19 2011 at 23:22
there's something about that glass bottle, am i right? – Edward J. Edmonds Oct 19 2011 at 23:39
how much per liter in US dollars? – cliff Oct 20 2011 at 23:41
The milk is 0.99 Euro which is about 1.37 USD. – Edward J. Edmonds Oct 23 2011 at 12:09

None......evolution dictated i stop once i weaned from the tit.

I was going to say "water", but that seemed too smart ass. +1 for beating me at the smart ass game, and coming up with essentially the same answer. – Happy Now Oct 20 2011 at 2:03
what about lactase persistence? you don't have that? – cliff Oct 20 2011 at 2:25

Blue Diamond Almond Milk, unsweetend . . . . its 95% Paleo ;)

So the super high 06 and phytase in Almond milk would only constitute 5%? – Caveman formally known as Dan Oct 19 2011 at 23:38

There isn't a whole lot of "almond" in almond milk. The amount of phytase and 06 is far less than eating a large handful of raw almonds. Since most people don't drink an entire carton of almond milk in a day (a week or more is a more likely scenario) it is not something I would lose sleep over. – FED at LiveCaveman.com Oct 19 2011 at 23:50

Raw milk from Jerseys cows. I've only recently introduced this post workout, just to see how it goes - seems to be going very well so far.

Jersey cow raw milk is the very best. almost steroid like when it comes to strength training. Raw milk is drinking milk for the first time. – pjnoir Mar 29 2012 at 1:20

I have been drinking pasteurized goat milk for the last week or so.

To make my matsoni yogurt I use low-temp pasteurized milk from the store, heated to 60 C for 30 minutes.

For occasional straight consumption I purchase actual raw milk from a producer in Hokkaido. Very very delicious but that's a luxury item since it costs 1,050 yen for 720 ml. That's like buying a $13 bottle of wine. At current exchange rates that comes out to about $72/gallon, so don't complain to me about prices at Whole Foods! I wish I could get things at Whole Food prices.

So I only get a couple bottles every couple of weeks. Comes in a glass bottle too.

The price just went up to 1,550 yen a bottle! The producer send a note around apologizing for the increase, but said that even with the higher price he's still not making money. – garymar Dec 20 2011 at 2:29

Raw milk from a local farmerwith Jersey cows. I drink less than 8 oz. a day. I drink some fresh, some I ferment into kefir.

1 can of cocnut milk a week, usually in coffee.

Commercial almond milk is disgustion and has minimal nutrition in my opinion.

Thai Kitchen Coconut Milk.

Adding a few tablespoons will make scrambled eggs so fluffy!

I've got to try this! – Jen Mar 29 2012 at 8:24

I will drink ALL the milk! Raw milk from somewhat local Jerseys; local, grassfed, vat-pasteurized cream; occasionally almond milk; coconut milk in cooking or the random dessert concoction...I am an equal opportunity milk/"milk" drinker.

You can have most of my share too! I don't need that much for yogurt making. :-)) – Nance Mar 29 2012 at 2:26
I do love yogurt, too - just tried my hand at making some a week ago and was pretty pleased. Yum! – Blossom1 Mar 29 2012 at 2:31

Kefir made from raw goat milk.

Yum! I add a little whipping cream to my scrambled eggs...probably not the healthiest choice but it sure is good! As far as milk goes...I'm a big fan of almond milk or just plain 1% :)

Heavy cream is not unhealthy at all! Add away! – Lindenblossom Mar 29 2012 at 15:18

Raw milk from hillacreas pride in peachbottom, Pa. Jersey- almost yellow in color (almost) taste like nothing you ever drank. Don't drink much as it is tough to get and use mostly during strength training months. Other then that- none, but I love real cheeses.

Would kefir count as milk? Just a small amount a day.

Plus, a glass of coconut milk every other day with dinner.

I have been drinking goat milk Kefir, post workout. It's pasteurized and it's been decent. However, I've gotten in touch with a cowshare program (Raw Milk sales are illegal in Canada) and may start getting Raw Guernsey Milk. Excited!!
