Hello, I'm a 26 years old athtletic guy, and I am on paleo for about two month now. I make sure that my omega3-omega6 ratio is optimal and I eat a lot of meat and fish. In the evening I sometimes eat nuts (prefered walnuts) and/or 100% chocolate. The only (!) carbs I take to mee are matlodextrin and fruits after gym and endurance-units. Before paleo my nutrition-plan was very strict low-carb for 1.5 years.
Since I am on paleo my blood pressure goes higher and higher! About 2 month ago my normal blood pressure was at 115/60 and now ist is about 140/80.
Can anybody tell me please what I can do to reduce my blood pressure? Or why is the blood pressure going higher through paleo? What are the reasons?
Ps: since my paleo-time (2 month) my skin is getting worse - that means I've got some pimples, zits etc. The last time that my skin was so worse was 3 years ago - and then I took isotretinoin/roaccutane.
(Sorry for my bad english) :-)
Mine has been the same in a way.. I am 26 about 200lbs and run a half marathon in the hour 40 range. my BP is normally high I barely pass my DOT physicals or am able to donate blood for it.. I used to eat more fish than animals as well as caffeinated tea or coffee.. The doctor wanted to give me pills said I had a expanded aorta. He refereed me to a dietitian, who instantly had me get off the caffeine which did help alot actually! Then I took it upon my self to kick out any supplements I was staking due to the stimulants (even in your daily vitamins) which also helped, then I kicked my can and bagged tuna! Which all together has dropped my BP by over 30 resting.
Try cutting things which are stimulating, coffee, supplements, alcohol etc etc.. Do one at a time for at least 2 weeks and monitor your BP see if it changes, it might be something in your diet or paleo has cleared out your arteries and veins and its normal now!!!
Now for your skin, it could be a change in washing liquid, or not washing enough! Mine used too after a work out or run, now I instantly change shirts after said workout or immediately hop in the shower. Not washing your linens enough could also be affecting this!
I have noticed a link between my acne and nightshade vegetables--you could cut out peppers and tomatoes (if you use them for cooking your meat and fish) and see if it makes a difference. It doesn't sound like you eat potatoes or eggplant, so you wouldn't have to worry about those. Since I cut out chili peppers and paprika, tomatoes, eggplant, and potatoes I have had some noticeable improvement (although I really miss them...).
