Seriously, yes, if the person is very sensitive. I know a boy who is so intolerant to gluten that he had his full range of symptoms come on just from shaking someone's hand who'd just been kneading dough, and hadn't yet washed his hands. My daughter is very sensitive, and I don't allow gluten in my house, but she's around it in the world, of course.

Yes. It's happened to me. My husband is paleo now, but in the past I've asked him to brush his teeth after eating gluten-filled stuff. It's not worth the risk.

It can happen with people with severe peanut allergies. There have been stories of young couples, where one of them had remnants of peanuts in their teeth and kissed their SO, resulting in SO going into anaphylactic shock.

I'm celiac, and this has been an issue for me in the past. It depends on your level of sensitivity, honestly, but in my opinion not worth the risk. If the person wants to kiss you that much, have them rinse their mouth and lips first. Believe me, it's better in the long run.

Or, you know, find a paleo mate :-)

If you're wheat-sensitive and want to make-out, wait for them to swallow the bite of sandwich before going at it. Also, don't lick crumbs off their lips.

It probably could, depending on the severity of the allergy. I know for nuts it's huge, even smell can trigger a reaction.

I think what you're asking is if two people are paleo or otherwise gluten-free, and one is sensitive to trace amounts of gluten, if the other eats a food with trace amounts of gluten, can a kiss cause a reaction in the sensitive one. That's a really good question and I'd love to know what others have experienced. People here and on celiac boards have reported that kissing someone who ate gluten is enough to get glutened, but at what point is the amount of gluten low enough? (It also depends on the type of kiss.)

Like gluten sensitivity itself, it might just be something that needs to be determined on an individual level. A couple dozen ppm can be enough to cause a reaction in some people.

But you need to worry about more than kissing, too. A 2007 case study showed that nut allergens can be transmitted even through semen. Scientopia has a good writeup about it.
