Hi, I've just started taking 5000 iu of Vitamin D3 daily and my girlfriend who's 12weeks pregnant wants to start taking D3 too.
My question is does anybody know the recommended daily dosage for D3 while pregnant?
I'm 5 months pregnant and was taking 4000 IU. Recently my doctor told me to up my dosage to at least 5000 because my level was borderline low (35.8 ng/mL). I'm now doing 6000 (have 2000 IU drops), plus taking fermented cod liver oil, eating fish eggs and fish, raw dairy, eggs, liver, etc.
As Chris Kresser says 'Test, don't guess!'.
Get to 40ng/dl consistantly.
I recently counselled a fried of mine to get her vitamin D replete and take 300mg magnesium a day when she was pregnant as she had a history of gestational diabetes.
She didn't get gestational diabetes (though that could be because this was her first girl and the risk is less with female babies) and the baby is now 8 months old.
She is the calmest, happiest baby and sleeps right through the night. She just smiles and engages with everyone and is almost walking! Could be unrelated but still nice to think the supplements did something!
