That's it really. I drink a lot of coconut cream and I now fart a lot. I never used to fart a lot, but I do since I upped my coconut cream intake. Do you think that the two are related?
Edit - The coconut cream is Ayam brand and contains nothing but coconut. No additives, preservatives, gum or sugars.
I am also going to take it out of my diet and see if that changes anything. I am just curious if anyone else has the same issues.
Coconut milk is a FODMAP and can cause abdominal bloating. I had to cut it out completely and feel so much better. There are several Paleo and Primal foods that are FODMAPs and should be eliminated if you have bloating. Bloating=Gut Irritation and is something your body doesn't like. It's not always fun to give up more food items, but you will feel so much better and your gut will thank you later!
Check out my blog post from January when I discovered FODMAPs.
Try cutting back or cutting out the coconut cream and see if the problem goes away. If it does, after a week or so, put it back and see if the problem returns. Sometimes self experimentation is the best way to problem solve. Also consider if there is something else that you consistently eat along with the coconut cream.
Also make sure that the coconut cream you are eating has no added sugars. Some products by that name do contain sugars.
It is possible that the additives that are often found in coconut cream/milk etc give you some gas problems. Xanthan gum, guar gum and carrageen (all emulsifiers) for example lead to gi distress in some people.
I believe it's possible to get "the trots" or farty if you up your fat intake too quickly because your hall bladder isn't adapted yet. Can anyone second that?
I agree with the removal and reintroduction experiment. When you reintroduce try it all at once and the remove it and reintroduce it slowly. If neither works you may have to abstain :(
I am having a hard time as well and have been eating a ton of coconut and coconut butter. like every day. I hate to give it up, but will do so for a week and see if my bloating goes away. thanks for the posts!
