I've come across a new recipe that calls for desiccated coconut -- what is that, exactly?

And do I need to go find it somewhere, or can I substitute the coconut flakes I already have?

Desiccated coconut is shredded coconut which has been dried to remove moisture. You can make it yourself from the flakes you have by drying it in an oven on low heat.
