I don't eat regular potatoes, but only because I find them insanely boring. They need a lot of dressing up to be interesting to me (bacon/butter/salt/etc), so I don't bother. I do however eat sweet potatoes. That's one sexy vegetable, even naked. ;) |

Well, I just don't like them enough to eat them. I have 3 sweet potatoes the counter but I have no desire to eat them over buttered veggies and meat. |

I haven't eaten potatoes in at least nine years, I just don't digest them well, and they are too sugary feeling in my body. |

I don't eat potatoes (white or sweet) because most of the Paleo Food Lists I've come across shun potatoes. Drew Price's food matrix says it's okay to eat sweet potatoes if you're not looking to lose weight or if you are very active but forbids white potatoes because they're a "newer" type of vegetable. Plus white potatoes have higher GI. |

I eat them a couple or three times a week. They do good for my digestion -too little carb = too much time in the bathroom. Also good source of potassium? |

Potato is generally not part of the default paleo program, but it's a popular expansion pack. The potato expansion pack is recommended for people who have trouble getting enough calories, can't afford much good meat, or do badly on a traditional low-carb diet. |

For budgetary reasons, I tried eating them for a while (~3 months). I just felt tired and sluggish and just generally crappy. Mr. Grainfree also complained of feeling sleepy all the time. It also seemed to make my reflux return, I think. (Don't hold me to that one. I'm still experimenting. But it seemed to stop when I got rid of the potatoes... so far... so, maybe?) So, apparently not a safe starch for me or him. Would I still have an occasional "cheat" with something potato based? Yeah, probably. Will I make them any regular part of my diet? Not any time soon. The lack of energy alone wasn't worth it. |

I know canned food is frowned upon, but I eat canned organic sweet potatoes, pumpkin, and butternut squash puree in modest amounts from a company called Farmer's Market. I get it at the grocery, but Amazon carries it too. The sweet potato is very sweet so I try to limit how much of it I eat but, for a treat, I eat it as dessert, adding cinnamon and pure cocoa powder, heating it a bit and then topping it off with cold coconut milk. Better than any pudding I've ever eaten. |

I handle sweet taters quite well, especially PWO but white potatoes don't agree with me well at all. Only thing I can think of is the insulin spike associated with the white ones but I'm sure someone smarter than me on here can give me a better reason why. |

Maybe it's just the sweet potatoes in my area but I've noticed this year's crop is bland, mealy and giving me consistent stomach aches. Bleh. Anyone else experiencing this? |

I've only been Paleo for a few weeks so I'm by no means an authority on this, but I've cut out white potato. I have sweet potato occasionally (once a week?) in a curry with other veggies, but I do a lot of cardio. Well, I try to! :) |

I keep buying em but the darn things keep going bad before I get around to em after eating good meat and a variety of vegetables and bits of fruit here and there. I keep thinking hey "cheap" filler! right! Nope...they take bottom rung and usually just end up in the trash in my case. My kids won't even eat em so I'll stop buying em for a while I guess. |

I don't eat any of the nightshades, including potatoes. Check out this article on them. Interestingly, I have muscle twitching (suspected BFS) and digestive distress, which developed after eating baked potatoes (including skin) almost daily for several years. |

As far as the matrix I posted mentioned above they're off the list but take each food on it's merits ... For Once skin is removed there's low anti nutrient concentrations, it is a very easy to prep and eat source of carbs Against It is not stictly 'paleo' (they are a group of newer varieties) but be VERY careful about going down that route unless you have a lot of hunting and gathering land near your house! They're a higher II source of CHO and pretty low nutrient density (micro/phyto) |

I recently stopped eating white potatoes and tonight I did and wouldn't you know, that ugly gas (burp) came back again. It feels like I'm not digesting them well for some reason. I was raised on starchy food and noticed I only got bigger as I got older. So, I've just recently cut about 95% of them out; cheating a bit here and there.) started drinking much more water and have seen a good weight change in my body. It's kind of scary because most of my family is overweight and they say that I'm looking thinner and I've been like 40 lbs. overweight for years now; They look at you like your sick or something, I don't understand that mentality. I'm eating sprouted grain bread, brown rice, pear barley, yams, just trading out enriched amd bleached starches. I've noticed how good my stomach feels too. Anyway, I hope I'm on the right track. Of course I've I'm upping the veggies too. I've worked out my whole life and just couldn't lose weight, as I lifted weights I only got bigger but not cut. Now I'm walking about 3x a week and have lost more than at any time I was going to the gym for those years. It took me years to find this formula. Two glasses of water upon rising, then eating some sprouted grain bread with honey or a banana or anything healthy for bfast, then drinking water about 45min to an hr later, letting my stomach acids digest the food. Drinking water all day before meals and waiting to hr. before next glass and a sleepy time caffiene free herbal green tea or the like before bed. Glad to find this discussion :) |
