Hey All

I am wondering if there are any effects of eating a lot of fat before going to sleep...I'm talking around 40-50grams worth in coconut milk/oil/olive oil

I have been doing this for a short while and it seems to have helped me fall asleep and stay asleep...though perhaps other factors have influenced this instead

What is thought about this?

Hmmmm maybe I should give this a try because as it stands now I wake up really early for no damn reason. Is this what your issue was? – Cory151 Oct 23 2011 at 13:45
yes I used to do the same...a few nights per week...I can't sleep on an empty stomach so I have always eaten some food close to bedtime...it used to be dairy (cottage cheese), but now that I have cut out dairy I replaced this meal with some fat and my sleep has improved...though i am still not 100% sure if its a direct result of the fat – PaleoWannabe Oct 23 2011 at 16:32

This was actually a trick I learned in nutrition school...eat some fat at bedtime, and sleep really well (not "like a baby" who wakes periodically throughout the night, where did that expression come from?)...this won't work for everyone, and I don't have a fancy scientific explanation as to why it works for you, but go with it! Good for you for discovering that about yourself....

So nutrition school didn't explain the trick? I'd be really interesting in hearing about why this works... – SlightlyReworded Oct 24 2011 at 11:39
