It's not bad, and it doesn't really hurt, it is just annoying. What causes this, and how do I get rid the popping, or is this normal?

The popping isn't like a popping when you have an altitude change. It feels more like your ear is making a popping noise without it actually popping, if that makes sense. :P

I don't know how else to say it.

Help me out. Thanks!

You probably have narrow Eustachian tubes, like me. I also have a slight case of TMJ. My jaw pops, and so do my ears.

It used to be much worse, when I would get constant ear-aches that ended up draining into my throat and infecting my tonsils, and years of smoking and allergies didn't help either. Now that I've been paleo though, I haven't had a sore throat once, nor have I had any seasonal allergies like I used to.

Good luck with your narrow tubes.

Your Paleo comment completely nixes your previous comment. Your TMJ and other problems were due to inflammation. Once you took the inflammatory foods out of your diet, your problems went away. The narrow tube comment is odd and seems unrelated! – hurleystylee Jul 19 at 13:22
Narrow Eustachian tubes are more prone to clogging/pressure vraiances/etc than normal Eustachian tubes...therefore, that's why I brought it up. – Futureboy Jul 24 at 7:22

Mine do that. Figured it was normal.

You have air trapped in your Eustachian tube (from the inside of the ear). I got mine rid off by... boarding a plane to Europe (I was going there for vacations), swimming at sea and letting the water getting in the ear (a few annoying days with the ear being blocked), but ultimately it went away (for the most part) when I switched to paleo.

Do a Google search, or search on the Mayo clinic site. Happens to everyone, it's not Paleo related, I promise.

You're right, it's related to eating inflammatory foods or foods you're allergic to. – hurleystylee Jul 19 at 13:23

What is it about the symptoms that make you suspect a Paleo angle?

The joint where the jaw rotates down is located right around where your ear is. So if you have any inflammation there its probably going to pop and you will hear that.

possible TMJ? A lot of times that comes with noisy jaws when your throat moves. It's not uncommon.

I started getting the ear popping really bad AFTER I went paleo. 99.9% of the time it would coincide with a family member getting a cold.

The ear popping was the only symptom that I got.

Considering that pre-paleo I might as well have been eating off a subway floor (I was sick all the time!) I counted my blessings.

Ear candling can clear that

Ear candling is Quackery. Probably harmless so if it relaxes you, go for it but don't expect it to actually do anything. – Aughra Feb 4 2012 at 18:34
No its not. I scuba dive alot, and fly a few times a year, and when my ears and sinuses feel gunked up/poppy/itch, I ear candle, and they feel great. I can equalise after ear candling better when flying or diving. – HippiPaleo Feb 5 2012 at 13:35
