Hi, I'm trying to heal my IBS and read on here that it may be best to avoid nuts. Then one night last week I ate around a half cup of almond butter and was ridiculously bloated for days afterwards, which effectively drove the point home that you paleohackers know what you are talking about.
But I've been eating a few spoonfuls of Artisana coconut butter every day this week. Could that have the same effect on me? I'm on week 3 of Paleo and I've been more bloated this week, so I'm trying to figure out whether it's the coconut butter or the starchy vegs I introduced (which I've noticed can be gassy in the past), or some wondrously inflating combination thereof. Should I lay off the coconut butter and just stick to coconut oil?
Also, which starchy vegs are the least problematic gas-wise? My sense is that yams, sweet potatoes and parsnips are the worst for me, maybe because they're higher in fructose? Should I just stick to plain old white potatoes? I am tempted to just ditch them altogether and introduce a bit of white rice instead. Of course ideally, once my gut is healed with probiotics, bone broths etc, I'd like to be able to eat tubers more freely.
