Anyone feel an odd high when they eat coconut oil? I have been using it to fuel super intense workouts...and now I'm thinking it might be a good replacement for a morning coffee (but what will I drink in the morning?) Has anyone else tried/experienced this?
I do use coconut oil a lot and it can be somewhat energizing on an empty stomach. I don't drink coffee never did and rarely tea. I never did drink a stimulant in the morning even as SAD and I certainly never feel the need for a morning stimulant being paleo. I get lots of sleep, I eat great food and I wake up before my alarm clock ready to go about my day, been this way for years. Ironically I grew up on a farm where coffee was a vital part of breakfast but I just never got into it.
I put a couple tblspns in my protein shakes and it seems and yes there's definitely an energy factor...I thought it may have been in my head too...can't explain it any further than that other than the fact maybe it turns into a time released drink instead of instantaneous by slowing the absorption.
I suppose there's an overlap in the effects of caffeine and lauric acid, since the latter also increases thermogenesis, metabolic rate etc. It'd certainly be preferable to a stimulant dependency.
I often have drinks that are half coconut milk/cream, half drip coffee.
Yesterday was macadamia nut flavoured coffee. It was seriously delicious. The best of both worlds. As for fueling workouts thoery? I think the effects are overstated and psychological to some degree. I hypothesize a trial with a coffee and or coconut oil and a placebo would demonstrate this.
UPDATE: My new favourite pre-workout:
1tbsp coconut butter cinnamon 2 tsp coffee (liquid, not the grind)
It becomes an amazing coffee/coconut nut-butter consistency and is perfect for a morning workout!
I have been doing coconut oil in the morning for months. No more migraines, fainting, or other weird cerebral events. And the scientific literature is beginning to catch up with reality on this one. Some MD brought her husband back from severe Alzheimer with just coconut oil.
Don't take it late in the day if you like to sleep at night.
I think I've heard Tim Ferriss mention he replaced his morning coffee with coconut oil in order to improve one of his lipid fat levels he was deficient in and that he noticed a difference in energy levels pretty quickly
