I have had mood problems for a long time and realize it may have started when I started drinking a lot of coffee. Now for one month I've been caffeine free and its a huge difference. Overall, I feel more like myself and stabilized, but will have immense fatigue, but now at least it's not crazy physco feeling, but instead normal tiredness. It sort of feels like my brain is re working itself while I feel this enormous drowsiness. Anyone have this, and how long until you really felt like you were back to normal?
Hmmm...from the standpoint of addiction I'd say it could take a very long time. I would call a few months the minimal period of time for both psychological and physiological adaptation and healing to take place.
The times I quit pre-paleo I would be dragging my ass for a good 6 weeks after quitting coffee. But it also turned out I was self medicating for both anemia and hypothyroidism. Quitting coffee post-paleo, and with proper thyroid support I still get nasty headaches for about a week, plus some major jonesing, but then it gets better.
So, long story short, if it has been a month, and you are still feeling cruddy, I'm guessing caffeine had a medicinal effect for you. If you want to feel better you can either go back to drinking coffee as a supplement, or figure out why it is your body needs the extra stimulation. Bloodwork would be fastest, or you could do some experimental l-tyrosine, liver, b-12, and iodine supplementing to see if you get any relief.
It could be that you just don't remember what its like to not be wired. This is often what happens to people when they go off anti-anxiety meds or other mood altering drugs. I'm not gonna lie: I miss being wired from caffeine. But, I don't miss the anxiety that came packaged with that heightened state.
I am very caffeine sensitive. Used to drink 2-3 lattes a day and it would worsen my panick attacks. I have been off it for 3 months now and feel a lot better. I literarilly cried for 3 days when I was giving up and had horrendous migraines.
The only downside is I could really use an afternoon pick me up in this cold, dark weather and have no idea what to turn to!!!!!!
I have read that the affects of caffeine for a heavy drinker should be out totally of your system after 96 hours. If you are feeling immensely fatigued after 1 month it would seem to me that you were using caffeine as an upper beforehand and that it is underlying lifestyle issues that make you fatigued, such as not enough sleep or you have a medical issue making you feel like this. I don't think you should be feeling like this a month later so maybe you need to have blood tests. It could be anything, low iron (are you menstruating Robert?), sleep disorder, etc. If it is serious enough go see a doctor.
