The header pretty much says it all.

I have been to this restaurant also (December 2011). My experience with the food was better than annamalia's, but it is also very German to complain about the food served in restaurants. Actually, it is very German to complain (I can get away with pointing this out because I am German myself ;) ). So, the plusses: The food, on my visit, was obviously of high quality. The menu changes regularly to reflect what's available, which gives it very much a "hunter-gatherer" feel ;) They sometimes serve game, depending on the season. I ordered venison, and it was incredible. I have to give them full marks here. The appetizers were also good, especially the nutmeal crackers, which are apparently a signature item for them. The neutrals: It's expensive, but I know a bit about the restaurant business, and you get what you pay for. Considering the quality, I found it worth the money. It would be nice as a treat now and again. Some people say that the space is too small, but crikes, you are eating substantial portions of venison without paying 400€ a plate for it and you're complaining about the amenities? I will agree that it needs more sound-dampening, because I found it hard to understand both the serving staff and my girlfriend, who was sitting right across from me. Everything reverberates a bit. The minuses: Seconding the complaints about the service. Several things bothered me:
They need to work on their enthusiasm, methinks. Eating out is not just about the food, but about the whole experience. But I can say without equivocation that the food is good, and on that front, you won't be disappointed. Tellingly, the place was packed when we went. |

I live in Berlin and "Sauvage" is my favourite restaurant. Great place to be. Good food, nice people. And affordable prices. http://www.rbb-online.de/zibb/archiv/index.media.!etc!medialib!rbb!rbb!zibb!zibb_20111026_essen.html |

I was at the Sauvage (2 weeks before christmas) and didn't have a good experience. I had wild boar stew with roasted hokkaido squash and green salad. the stew was bland; the squash wasn't roasted, it seemed very mushy (as if it was cooked in water) and well, the green salad was fine. Service was not attentive and didn't speak proper german which is why she messed up our orders twice. I love the concept but they got a bit lost in all the hype (they were in several german magazines/newspapers) and don't live up to that. One thing was great though: you can let go for once and don't have to mention gluten at all. |
