I'd like to get a tattoo celebrating my new Paleo Lifestyle and would like to hear some suggestions. Please don't offer Grok cause that won't happen unless Mark pays me well, I already have one corporate logo and they paid dearly for it to be on my skin.

Why not find an actual piece of paleolithic art and replicate it? There are some cave drawings over 30k years old. |

I'm pretty sure Mark Sisson would love to see people get real tattoos of his grok logo (that he's given out/sold as temporary tattoos): http://www.marksdailyapple.com/secret-contest-results-the-grok-tattoo/ |

For me, the symbol that best represents the paleo lifestyle would be the sun! I think it's amazing that the human body naturally produces the all-important Vitamin D, so crucial for our physical and mental health. The sun also represents the outdoors -- as opposed to the world of computers, cubicles, and air-conditioning. And the sun is behind everything that nourishes -- sunlight feeds the plants, which feed the animals, which feed us. And it symbolizes happiness, optimism, and warmth - key components of a paleo lifestyle! |

A primitive arrowhead comes to mind. Nice and simple. |

How about a Bison or giant stag with a human bite mark or spear on its hind quarter? If going for ancient authenticity, I would think it should be something that looks like it happened by accident since the first probable tattoo was a accident involving ash or plant pigment that was on a hand when it was gouged by something sharp or jagged. I believe it was the iceman Otzi who had a series of dots and lines tattooed on his lower back and back of knees. A lot of ancient tattoos found on preserved skin were around the joints of the body and some believe it was a way to try and manage pain or inflamation, perhaps with a medicine man's ritualistic flair for ceremony. |

This paleo restaurant in Berlin has a pretty cool logo (the head of a neanderthal, I assume): http://www.sauvageberlin.com/ |

I've been thinkning about this lately, I actually meant to post this question. What's your reason for getting the tattoo? I came to paleo after thyroid problems, so I thought of getting a simple black butterfly tattoo (the thyroid gland looks like a butterfly), but that might be too girly for my taste. Then I thought of a black bear tattoo like this http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_dQ20KeST9V8/SwMawn-qDSI/AAAAAAAAAgE/QU6u51JuxI8/s1600/black-bear-tattoo.jpg they're strong and wonderful animals. But I agree with the prehistoric cave art, I think that might be the best. I'm trying to find a good one. Tribal patterns have me excited the most, but I feel like it would be rude to tribes to get such tattoos. |

How about a Rib-Eye Steak? Grass-fed, of course. |

Maybe a simple quote that embodies the message, like going back to our roots, kind of thing. Everyone probably has different quotes they thing would work, but I personally like "Travel light, live light, spread the light, be the light." and maybe a cave drawing type symbol with it! Going with the whole natural/minimalist deal! |

I think one of those mysterious cave paintings of a hand would make an awesome paleo tattoo. They seem to have been very common for some reason. Man's confrontation with nature, with his own power, with himself... |
