Does anyone have any suggestions for minimalist shoes for kids? I love Vivobarefoot but can't bring myself to pay $75 for a pair of shoes she will grow out of in 6 months.

New Balance makes some good low profile shoes that my son really likes. They're minimal enough and he like the look of them. My younger son will wear anything as long as it has a Hot Wheels/Lego/Star Wars logo. Are you listening Vibram? |

My kid is 12. We love each other fantastically. I wear Vibrams, he wears Tony Hawk skaters. I momentarily was tempted to try to convince him that he should wear Vibrams, too. But, hey, he's 12. Being cool is really a high priority. Toe shoes aren't "cool." Not now, anyway. |

Why not just let them run around barefoot? Under safe conditions obviously. Although baby feet might be a tad more delicate than I remember.. :) |

A lot of the Minnetonka moccasins come in a soft sole. I bought some for my daughter when she was younger and I wear mine all the time. Most are under $30. |

I just got my 4.5 year old daughter Merrell's barefoot shoes - I'd owned the adult versions of the Merrell Pace and have enjoyed them for their zero drop and the feedback that the thin, flexible, but strong Vibram sole offers. They retail at $60 but a coupon voucher deal I used brought them down to $34.95, shipped. With the holiday season deals coming around you can probably get a pair of kids' Merrell barefoot shoes for a fairly deep discount if you shop judiciously. |

Skidders are pretty good as far as minimalist shoes - and they are super appealing to kids (at least the toddler age-set). And you can find them even cheaper on ebay sometimes too |
