So what are peoples thoughts on an adequate amount of fruit? If you are LC or VLC I guess no point answering.
I am fairly active (weights 3-4 times per week, sprints and cycling). I am fairly lean, no real issues with body weight, except maybe 1kg of fat around my gut.
I know that I eat very well, but I wonder if I eat too much fruit.
Daily I would normally consume 1 banana, 1-2 apples, 1 cup of berries, couple of pieces of melon and sometimes a blood orange.
Is this a lot? Do people eat more/less. Can people please let me know roughly what they eat fruit wise?
Seems like a reasonable amount to me.
When it comes down to it your the only person who can decide if that's a lot. If you have no issues related to fruit I would eat as much as you want, the last thing any of us need is more dietary restriction imo.
I eat zero fruit (or juice) and haven't eaten any in over 4 years. This includes tomatoes since I also gave up nightshades when I went Paleo (2007).
Then again I'm a 47 y/o female and still trying to lose weight.
I say that if you are looking and feeling like you want to, then don't worry about it. :)
Seems like a lot to me, but I'm not much of a fruit eater. Sometimes I'll just have a couple pieces of fruit a week, sometimes I'll go through a lb of berries in a couple days; when I can get local white peaches though, I will throw down!
If you feel good and are happy with how you look, keep doing what you're doing. If you are concerned about the belly fat, I'd try cutting some of the fruit.
I do CF 3-4 times a week, heavy lifting tossed into the mix, with cycling - I'm lean and mean :) I like fruit. I like fruit a.lot. That was the hardest for me, to cut back. Literally a lifetime ritual of whatever is seasonal right before bed and kind of munching on fruity tastiness throughout the day.
Outside of a banana about 30mins before my WOD's, I will have a cup of berries, strawberries/raspberries/blueberries/blackberries, with my first meal and then the same before bed. Occasionally when I could get Rainier cherries I would add those into the mix, a few Corinth grapes, or if something came into very limited season and I had to try. I have two new apples on my counter from the farmer's market that I'll probably slice up and eat over a couple of days.
Personally I think you're eating a nice amount.. but that's me. Everyone is different so whatever feels best for you :)
Wow. Fruit. It's a wonderful thing. Filled with many antioxidants, minerals, and vitamins, and yet it is still delicious! I say what your having is a nice amount. And hey, there wouldn't be a problem if you ate even more! Antioxidants in fruit are miracle-workers... they help cure cancer, arthritis, asthma, heart disease, inflammation, blood diseases, aging, and more! In fact, eating fruit can make you lose weight. I am writing a report on fruits and their antioxidants. Don't stop eating fruit!
peter, I eat about half the amount than you, but it depends of the season. I don't think your amount is a lot.
My newest perception is, as suggested by some paleo nutritionists and studies, that the health benefits of fruit and vegetables are overemphasized, and they don't contribute that much to your overall health. My current strategy is to not spent too much time worrying about them...a few pieces are ok, but it is much more important to have a good source of meat.
1 - 2 peaces two times a week, mostly banana, kiwi.
I don't like fruit, and never did. Its like soda to me.... that amount of sugar always made me feel bad. I would rather eat ice cream. I never crave fruit, ever but I do crave sweets.
