What are the diet? Bushmen people in the Kalahari eat today? And what is the diet Bushmen KhoiSan ate in the past? And if you calculate it at chrono-meter what are the percentages of fat carbohydrates and calories.
Paul Jaminet wrote on the San bushmen as part of his serum lipids series. Currently, what they eat is horrible (excerpt from a 1984 study):
The diet of the San has changed considerably in the period since the previous study in 1969 (1). The staple food, commercial maize meal, is eaten as a porridge or fermented with cane sugar to make beer. Frequently, this porridge or beer is the only food consumed in a day.
It is probably not feasible for the San to return to a hunter-gatherer existence because the available land could support only a fraction of the present populations in that mode; neither do the San wish to return to the past.
And they used to eat:
When one considers that in 1958, much of these people’s dietary intake came from the hunting of wild animals it will be appreciated that major changes have occurred….
In his article, Paul argues that the Bushmen have always had a high parasitic load leading to their low cholesterol levels, and I think he makes an excellent case.
