At the doctor's today. Had to see him in order to get some labs. I wanted TSH and Vit D. When I said "Vitamin D" he does a face plant, shakes his head and asks why in the world I want to check my vitamin D. I told him my wife's vit D level was 7 and we eat the same stuff. He goes into this long spiel about how vit D is way overrated and people are doing themselves great harm by megadosing to get their levels in the 50's. Then said he himself had a vit D level of 8 and it's been that way for years. WTH?
That is not even CW any longer.....tell him to read this and then tell him I said read a freaking book some time before he hurts someone. He is total embarrassment to our profession.
Well, clearly he's big on conventional wisdom. Instead of challenging you, he should have, at the very least, treated you like a CLIENT. And he should be of the philosophy that if Vitamin D levels are important to you, it better DAMN WELL be important to him. I swear, practitioners who lack the ability to listen to their patients is almost the norm these days. His ego tells him that he's got to be right, and that you have no idea what you're talking about.
Go elsewhere, and seek out a new practitioner. Find another DOC, or NP, preferably a functional med doc. Check out the paleo physician's network.
Sorry for your experience, as a Nurse and aspiring NP, I cringe when I hear crap like that.
