This product is fantastic. A staple on my regular Whole Foods jaunts. – Dorado Galore Jan 8 2012 at 1:10

If you think that is good, try their Cacao Bliss. OMG. I haven't found it locally yet, but maybe that's a good thing.

yep that is good too! – paleoprimal Jan 8 2012 at 1:23

I picked this up after hearing Gary Taubes rave about it on his podcast last summer with Jimmy Moore. It took me a while to try it (I detest flaked coconut), but once I did I was hooked! Like Taubes, I mostly eat it directly out of the jar with a spoon. I'm very happy that Whole Foods carries it ... if only it was inexpensive, it'd be the perfect food ;).

BTW, what's also very cool is that you can get this in individual two-oz packets, perfect for travel.

two oz packs? WHERE?? – paleoprimal Jan 8 2012 at 1:23
I ordered them off Amazon (see the link above). – Beth-WeightMaven Jan 8 2012 at 13:30

How does it differ from Coconut Manna (if anyone has tried both)?

Ive tried both... I prefer this stuff for smoothies and the manna for spreading on things – Jeff Nov 10 2011 at 6:03
It's my understanding that they're the same thing. I've tried both and usually stick with another brand's manna, simply because it's cheaper than Artisana. – Ruth Nov 10 2011 at 13:28

I just bought some after reading this and O.M.G....heaven in a jar! It was quite costly, around $9. I've seen some internet postings about people making their own with either coconut powder found at Indian markets, or by using dried unsweetened coconut shreds. Throw it in a food processor or a Vitamix and let it blend until creamy and smooth. I'm hooked already and I'll definitely try making my own to save money.

Making your own is almost as good (not quite as creamy) and SO much cheaper. Buy unsweetened coconut flakes and throw them into your food processor. My Vitamix doesn't handle it as well; it gets too hot and shuts down. Your food processor will get hot, too. It will take a good long time (maybe up to ten minutes) for the coconut to liquify, but it will. I have plastic candy molds that I pour it into to harden and I store in the freezer so I can have a treat whenever I want. Eating it out of the jar is expensive! Use ice cube trays if you don't have molds. And try adding chocolate! – yogini345 Nov 11 2011 at 13:18
I've made peanut butter before in a cheap coffee grinder so I would think coconut butter would turn out great in one also(but probably have to run it twice to make it super creamy) lol. – Soul Apr 26 2012 at 18:41

Hah, funny that you mention this. My friend was just raving about it yesterday :) I have yet to try it, but I'd really like to.

I just love Artisana's coconut butter. It's much better (IMHO) than Tropical Tradition's coconut cream (they're the same product, ingredient-wise). Artisana's is smoother and sweeter than Tropical Tradition's product. I like to melt it and add unsweetened cocoa or cinnamon powder. I don't mind that it's only slightly sweet. You could add a bit of stevia if you have a sweet tooth. When I bake a yam or sweet potato, I put Artisana on instead of butter. Add cinnamon powder and it turns it into a dessert. I buy it from Amazon. I hear the price is better at Whole Foods but there's no Whole Foods in my town. Yum!

Not only do you have a splendid name (I go by "Tony" in the real world), but both of your suggestions are things that I absolutely love to do with coconut butter. fitnessinanevolutionarydirection.com/2011/06/… fitnessinanevolutionarydirection.com/2011/10/… – FED at LiveCaveman.com Nov 10 2011 at 1:29
Thanks for these links. And, now I have a new blog to put into my Google Reader! – Toni Nov 11 2011 at 1:09

The reason for the seemingly high price is because Artsisana's products are really sourced from the highest quality producers around the world and packaged in California. Alot of their products are uncooked, raw and preservative free. Totally unprocessed at all. So there is probably alot of work involved I would think IMHO... right? Im a raw foodie, and I love their stuff... Its amazing. Alot of their stuff is Whole Foods or cheaper online even with shipping. I get mine from a shop called covitality.com, I guess they are as good as any other :)

I haven't tried it, but I had just bought their coconut oil the other day! Is this just as good? I was actually going to come on here and ask about this brand... the other coconut oil I bought (the first ever in my life) was like meh. It was NOW brand. I'm sure it was good and all... but it took some coaxing to remind to to have it. But with this Artisana brand coconut oil, all I know is that I tasted it plain, and omg it tasted good!! The other kind was like wax, sort of. But with this, I want to keep eating it! Plain!

This makes me happy. :)

Its so funny I came across this, I bought a jar last week to get more fat in my diet and Holy Coconut! I eat that stuff out of the jar with spoon at night for dessert. It gives me "fat euphoria" :D Its expensive ($11.99 at my WF) but I will keep buying it. Its totally worth it!
