Yes not technically paleo...but we all know where that argument leads.

Has anyone tried the GOMAD protocol with good results? Ever thought of trying it with goat's milk? I tolerate dairy very well, and have basically no ill-effects whatsoever from goat's milk. Is it incredibly detrimental in the long-run to my gut health?

I'm lacto-paleo, and have a hard time gaining weight, even eating prodigious amounts of protein and carbs PWO. The only drawback I can see is the cost.

I also eat in a leangains style with a 16/8 approach, and hope that because of this I will be less likely to gain BF. I suppose I'll just have to try it and report back.

How much Milk do you drink now? While I do not drink Goats milk my regular post workout drink is 1L of milk, which I have found has increased my overall strength and recovery better than anything else. Some days I drink more, some days I drink less. I guess it really depends on your goal, but I would not recommend just diving into a full gallon if you do not consume any amount of milk on a regular basis. Start slow, see what works for you. – Ryan H Nov 15 2011 at 4:19
I don't normally drink milk, but I do eat alot of butter, cheese and drink my fair share of heavy cream. I've been drinking goat's milk for the past week or two, and haven't noticed any ill-effects. – Futureboy Nov 15 2011 at 4:31
Fuck me (pardon my French)! I only just worked out how much 1 gallon is. 3.78 litres. Are you for real? I don't drink that milk in a week. – peter Nov 15 2011 at 6:53
Even more for those of us on this side of the pond. Almost a full litre more! 1 Imperial gallon = 4.54609188 litres – sean Nov 15 2011 at 9:31

The window is about hormonal effect. I did my muscle gain with a 22/2 feasting fasting ratio. Eating all day never lets your body recover, constantly sending blood/immune response to gut, less energy for rest/recovery/growth. If you're getting more calories than you need for maintenance, you'll grow regardless of how often you consume. My n=1, the less often I ate, same calories, the less went to my gut. Intermittent fasting is amazing. – Stephen-Aegis Nov 15 2011 at 14:04

I've been gomading for a month or 2 now and before that I was drinking about a half gallon for a couple months. I personally love the convenience of milk and the cheapness of it, the fact that its loaded with nutrients and is a muscle building super food is a just a plus. At this point I see no reason to stop drinking a gallon a day anytime in the near future. If you tolerate dairy i say go for it, I have yet to see any major drawbacks.

Did you ever have seasonal allergies? I cut out gluten, sugar and dairy all at the same time when I went Paleo, and my allergies disappeared. They were pretty awful, and I worry a bit about them coming back. I'm inclined to think it was the gluten and sigar causing them though, as I've been slowly adding in dairy, and haven't had a problem so far with butter, ghee, heavy cream or cheese. – Futureboy Nov 15 2011 at 6:35

Never had allergies in my life. I would just experiment, if they come back you can always get rid of it or try switching up other stuff. – cliff Nov 15 2011 at 6:46
How is the fat to lean muscle mass ratio in your gains? – Futureboy Nov 15 2011 at 18:00
Its basically all lean mass – cliff Nov 15 2011 at 18:54

I never got all the way to a full gallon. Just before turning to the Paleo diet, I went on the milk weight-gain diet, as I was significantly underweight and had tried other approaches that did not work. It blew my gut up at the time, and I only made it up to a half gallon or so a day of whole milk. I did gain about 12 lbs in 2 months. Ultimately, what I found was that it helped my body adapt to consuming an increased amount of calories. When I stopped drinking the milk, I was hungrier for more food than I was previously. I tried goat's milk, lactose free-milk, and seemingly every other option. It all blew my stomach up. It was probably the significant fat intake, rather than lactose, but I cannot say that for certain.

blew up your stomach in terms of GI distress? Did you notice fat accumulation? – Futureboy Nov 15 2011 at 3:59
Certain GI distress. Gas. Bloating. Diarrhea. It wasn't constant but I experienced these effects throughout the approximate 2 month period. I of course gained some amount of fat, but when I started, I was 150 lbs at 6 feet tall and too lean (IMO). I have no goals of being super lean as it tends to trigger past eating disorders. I am now 175 lbs, much stronger than I was, can run just as fast in a 5k and probably at about 13-15% bodyfat (guesstimate). I don't have a 6 pack of abs but don't want them. You won't get much support in this forum for GOMAD, but if faced with the decision... – Tom R. Nov 15 2011 at 14:30
I would do it again. Like other n=1 experiments, you will only know if you try it and see what it does or does not do for you. – Tom R. Nov 15 2011 at 14:31

A Gallon Of Milk A Day (GOMAD) is something made up for skinny hardgainer teenagers who simply do not know how to eat enough to grow. If you're everything else but a raging fat burning skinny teenager I'd advise against it.

Unless you really want to gain as fastest fat as you can possibly can in the shortest amount of time.
