My blood test results show that in the year since I went Paleo

Blood tests September 2010, February 2011 and September 2011:

Triglicerides 198 81 78 LDL 183 172 155 HDL 37 49 57

However on the liver front:

Bilirubin 0.59 1.26 1.41 GOT 23 33 34 GPT 26 45 46

From September of 2010, after being diagnosed as Type II diabetic my diet changed completely.

I am wondering if someone can ask me the right question in order to ascertain what is happening with my liver.

No alcohol to speak of. I have almost totally cut out fruit. I do include cheese and some nuts. Take various herbs including Milk Thistle. Only grass fed animals for meat. Only organic vegetables. Vitamin E and D supplements. Cod liver oil. Lots of virgin coconut oil. Various other tweaks.

My doctor mentioned it as if in passing... but apparently did not attribute much importance to it... and that's something... because he is fairly conventional and will proscribe pills at the drop of a hat... – eric Nov 18 2011 at 8:04

your liver is still exporting visceral fat out of it and that is why this is happening. No biggie just understand it. here is another key thing to follow everytime you check your LFT's look at your FBG. while your exporting visceral fat your FBG will be over 88. Once you have exported most of it out you will notice the Dawning phenemena that most T2D talk about vanishes because youre regaining control over PEPCK (by leptin) and then you will also slowly be able to drop your HS CRP and ferritin levels to great levels. At this time you should see some major thyroid benefits provided your – The Quilt Jan 14 2012 at 16:51

your gut is not leaky or infiltrated with candida. Most recovering T2 D have a candida problem but most never realize it. When you get you FBG to 88 I might consider a GI Fx test to check for candida. If youre positive go to an ID person not a GI guy and get then to go nuclear on it to get rid of it. Then spend your next 6-12 months reestablishing your gut microflora with diet and natural probiotics. The think you will notice when you proceed this way is how natural your pituitary gland, adrenal, and thyroid will jump back into your normal groove without you having to do to too much. – The Quilt Jan 14 2012 at 16:55

eric - to "bump" it, just edit your original question. Change a word or add some punctuation somewhere. Probably shouldn't do it too often though to the point of being annoying to the board. – Jack Kronk Nov 17 2011 at 15:37
thank you for the advice. – eric Nov 18 2011 at 8:05

GOT 23 33 34

GPT 26 45 46

sept 2010, feb, 2011 sept,2011

The above are my scores from 3 tests as I mentioned in the original post.

Just went for my latest results:

GOT = 21 GPT = 22 and bilirubin back down to 0,77 right back to where they used to be originally which seems to lend credence to the fact that my liver was kind of de-toxing for a period of time.

My billirubin is at your level, too, but I have Gilbert's. Yours went up from normal to 1.4. Draw attention to that and ask your doc to to measure it "direct." Check your prior #s and see if it was around 0.6 or 1.4. High billirubin could be due to many things, everything from gallstones. Your liv enzyme going up is probably due to liver detox and they should come down soon, although most peple have their liver #s come down a lot sooner. Plus you weren't really overweight.

Namby -- do you support the Phase II liver detox????! Gilbert's is a mild dysfunction (or great) of glucuronidation pathways which leads to higher bilirubin (byproduct). gilbertssyndrome.org.uk/2011/08/… – grace Jan 19 2012 at 22:56

Eric, consider with your medical partner the value of the above... Losing fat toxifies us esp if TOO FAST -- unfortunately the plastics, pthlates, heavy metals, xenoestrogens, PCBs, pesticides and other fat-soluble toxins are liberated when we burn our helluv OLD fat and overload our detox systems... – grace Jan 19 2012 at 22:59
