Never an irregular period unil I got of Nuva ring in January 2011. Now, 29-75 day cycles.
I'm not sure what your actual question is, so I'll just tell you a story.
When I consulted a fertility doctor about trying to get pregnant, I learned that I had PCOS. A friend of mine was diagnosed a month later after talking to me. Our doctor gave us somewhat different advise because we presented with different fertility issues. I was having pretty regular periods and was ovulating during most cycles, so he told me to eat plenty of saturated animal fats (he actually said "have a love affair with butter!" :->) and a lower carbohydrate diet, but since I was following the Zone Diet at the time, he said I probably wouldn't have to go lower carb than that. We'd just have to see. I got pregnant with my twins a year later . . . My friend, on the other hand, was a hormonal mess. She hadn't had a period in months, with extremely irregular periods for the two years before this (her hormonal disruption started after a miscarriage). She probably wasn't ovulating. She was having serious cramps when she did menstruate and her insulin resistance was through the roof. She was eating less than 500 calories a day at one point and gaining 2-3 pounds a week. She felt out of control and all I could say was "I bet you have PCOS! Go see my doctor." It was PCOS. Supposedly, women with PCOS can get really out of whack with hormonal disruptions like a miscarriage or birth control pills etc. Anyway, our doctor put her on a low carb diet similar to a Paleo/Primal diet - no grains, limited beans, limited fruit, limited high fat dairy, and all the low carb veggies, meat and saturated fat she wanted to eat. Within three months her cycles completely regulated, she lost 30 pounds, and she started ovulating again. She got pregnant two months later without any actual fertility treatments.
I know this is all anecdotal, but the point is, my fertility doctor puts all of his severe PCOS patients on a diet similar to the Paleo diet. He lets us moderate PCOS patients have a little more carb, but he tells every one of his patients to eat saturated fat and to control their carbohydrate intake. And he has an amazing track record with helping women with PCOS get pregnant. Wow! I lucked into this doctor and still feel blessed for both myself and my friend.
I hope there's something in my story that helps you.
pcos is developed earlier in life... so unless ur a 13 yr old girl who just got her period chances are u had it before and didnt realise it.... i was not diagnosed with it until i was twenty.... your body changes all the time you symptoms may have just become more prevelant.... i was on two medications for my pcos and after going paleo im off all medications and my symptoms are almost non exhistant with the exception of the occasional cramp from a cyst but all girls get that once in a while....even my insulin resistance cleared up with just the lifestyle change ( i also crossfit at least three times a week usually 5) talk to a doctor or nutritionist who is familiar with pcos and paleo eating to help guid u through it...
