If you get the stomach flu, what remedies do you use? Vitamin C? Apple Cider Vineger? Water? Rest?
What works the best?
Are there any quick reliefs you can get from any foods or supplements?
I've never heard that you can develop food sensitivites while you are sick. Food sensitivities come from bad gut bacteria. That can certainly happen if you are taking antibiotics or doing other things that hurt gut flora.
With the stomach flu, activated charcoal can really help. Even if you throw it up, keep taking it until it stays down. It will do a little bit of good even if it only stays down for a few minutes. It helps regardless of the reason - food poisoning, virus, etc.
Sipping on peppermint or ginger tea can do wonders for nausea and upset stomach, too.
Sipping on homemade bone broth is the number one thing to keep your body nourished when sick.
On top of that, get as much sleep as you can.
If you take activated charcoal, keep in mind it's going to strip EVERYTHING out of your system - good as well as bad. You're going to want to follow up with some high-quality probiotics or a ton of fermented foods - when you can hold them down, obviously!
When my husband has the stomach flu, the only thing he can keep down is electrolyte water mixed with small amounts of non-acidic juice. Anything you can stomach to prevent dehydration is what you need to stick with - bone broth is a great suggestion, if you can tolerate it.
Taking charcoal can help stop diarrhea drinking water and even coconut water can increase the problem. I actually turn to electrolyte water to rehydrate. Bone broth can heal the guts. It's best not to eat much when you're this sick because your body can actually develop food sensitivites or allergies when you're sick.
When you have what is normally the 24hr stomach bug, whatever you put in your stomach has an extremely high likelyhood of coming back up, including water. Forcing activated charcoal down your throat and vomiting it back up over and over again is possibly one of the most illogical things I have ever read on PH. DONT DO THAT. Instead, sip water and deal with the vomiting the best you can. Drinking pedialite can also add diarrhea, so don't bother. What you REALLY want to get your hands on are compazine(or its equivalent) in either oral, injectable, or suppository. You can chew the oral up in between vomiting sessions and hope it gets into your system, or if you dont have diarrhea yet, you can put a suppository in. It is anti-nausea/anti-vomiting and is the best drug in the world when you have stomach virus, unfortunately its prescription and getting one while your sick is a giant pain. Its a great med to order online and keep stashed away for when you get sick and I highly recommend it.
I fast until the problem is gone. Water, some warm herbal tea to fight the crazies, and plenty of rest... oh, and most important to me, if its a lower GI bug, zinc oxide diaper rash ointment to get rid of "the red brown eye".
After it seems to have cleared, unsalted broth and simple, easy to digest, low waste food... usually soft scrambled eggs and applesauce..
Upper GI stomach bugs, well, I havent dealt with one in years... but when I used to get them the treatment was the same, without the water.
