How much coconut oil is recommended per day to reap the various health benefits (especially when considering a desire to lose weight)? Is it better consumed alone or with protein/carbohydrates or does it not matter?

I just read about an awesome way to eat it. Make hot coffee, put in coconut oil (up to a Tablespoon) and put in blender. I put in 1/2 a splenda. The blending cools it off, and it's delicious and now I don't need cream or more artificial sweeteners. I'm hooked. |

I've heard amounts up to 3-4 tablespoons a day for weight loss. I don't eat it straight like some (I tried it once and nearly puked), but I do cook with it regularly. Eat Fat, Lose Fat by Sally Fallon and Mary Enig is a great resource for more info about coconut oil and weight loss. |

Coconut oil is a good fat to eat (in variety with other fats), but it is not magic. |

Just cook with it. You get the health benefits and theres no need for an extra supplement in your regimen. |

I'd say a good start is a tablespoon. I eat three teaspoons off the spoon throughout the day. |

If your healing something eat about 5 tablespoons a day, For a normal diet 3 tablespoons is good, Always eat it with foods (either cook with it, melt it on your food or just eats it off the spoon) BUT start off with 1 teaspoon 3 times a day and work your way up to 1 tablespoon 3 times a day over a few weeks. Otherwise it will detox your system too quickly and you will feel sick for a while :). Defenatly include it in you diet though as it is great for everything health wise |
